My interior “key warning alarm light (?) sensor” some how was activated a couple of weeks ago. It is located on my dash above the climate controls and below my radio selection controls. It is the orange looking auto with a key inside.

When the key is in the ignition the light goes off. When the car is started the light is off. When the car is off and I remove my key from the ignition, the light goes on. Very strange. Does anybody know what could cause this? I’m probably taking it in later this week for service.

    Thanks.
FYI, I do have an autostart installed if that makes a difference.

I'm fairly sure that's how it's supposed to be. Maybe it was broken before, and it fixed itself? LOL

Its suppose to blink, if so then thats normal and its suppose to go out with the key in the ignition. That is your immobilizer light and if the key isnt programmed correctly it can sometimes interfere with starting the car. But if it runs, and the light goes off when the keys in and stays on when its out then the dealer cant really do anything about it besides scan it and look for any faults given by the immobilizer.

I was thinking about the immobilizer angle, as some sort of error occurring. Having said that, after nine years and 100,000 miles, it is coming on after the truck is turned off and the key is removed. It does flash. Something is fishy.

It should blink when the key is removed and the vehicle off. Is it doing this?

Yes. So you’re saying that yours flashes when the vehicle is off and the key is removed?

Then your truck is operating normally. You just havent noticed it before or the light was having issues illuminating somehow. Nothing wrong here. All that light indicates is "YES THAT KEY BELONGS TO THIS TRUCK" it does that to see the key id's so no random people can make up a exact fit key and start it up.

That means your truck is bricked and you have to replace it. The dealers will dick you around to fix it and the cost of a new truck will rival the cost of the repair. Kinda like a cell phone. If you own it outright I can take it off your hands and maybe, just maybe get it going. You'll have to sign over the title.

Yes, I read the owners manual. There is nothing in it regarding the sensor. It’s odd that it just started flashing two weeks ago.

I guess it was a matter of time before B&D’s bought keyboards... Unfortunate for TW

    Not true.

This is a screenshot of the 2008 Tacoma Owners manual page 15. It has always flashed if it isn't broken. Note where it says:

" The system is automatically set when the key is removed from the engine switch. The indicator light will start flashing to show the system is set."
