08 base 4cly trans fluid

    I have a reg cab, base model 08 with 2.7. It has 240k. I haven't ever done any maintenance on it other than oil changes, brakes, and tires. I am considering replacing the transmission fluid but I am skeptical on introducing a new fluid and filter into the system, on the other hand with this many miles the fluid is bound to start breaking down sooner or later. This was my dads truck and I want it to be a million mile truck. Any advice? Maybe on other maintenance as well?
