so im not sure where this would be posted so sorry if it's in the wrong thread but I'm new to Toyota engines. This is my first Toyota. I've always owned fords but decided to make the switch and I've been fairly happy with my Tacoma. Anyways it makes this ticking sound on the freeway mostly when I accelerate above 60. I've heard of "taco tick" and have been told that Toyota engines are fairly noisy but I wanted to know if this is normal or something to be concerned about. Kinda sounds like when you put a baseball card on the wheel of your bike.

    Thanks in advance!

I had that happen once, but it turned out to be a leaf that got sucked in. I just cleaned out the cabin air filter behind the glove box.

Where (what sort of dealer) did you buy it, how many miles on it, any sort of warranty?

Check the engine oil, does it look clean, does it smell "old"--change it anyway and depending on miles and where you live consider alternative grades--do not trust any used automobile dealer (used-used, or new selling used) as far as you can throw them. The first thing I do when buying any used vehicle--and that is all we buy--is change all fluids as soon as is practicable...

Maybe mine does the same noise, with the exhaust I guess I've never noticed it. I wouldn't sweat it. Unless somebody else has some other opinion.

My 13 sounds the same and it only has 41k miles. Bought it with 24k and haven't noticed anything different since.

That's not when you "accelerate above 60". What you have recorded is down and dirty, "in-your-face", "close-up" with the engine idling--it's a pickup truck, not a Lexus--NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) take a second seat or third seat when designing a truck.

    What were you driving previously?

sounds like mine if I shoved my face in the engine like a fat kid in a 50 gallon ice cream barrel.

I said above 60 because that's when I can hear it while driving. Idling yes I can hear it but once i start driving on the street it goes away. Should have been more specific but not sure where you are going with the whole "noice? Vibration and harshness take a second seat..."

    I drove a ford.

I'm sorry automatic spelling "correction" took over--should have been "Noise..."
