I managed to get a oem rear view mirror (with the camera display) and the rear view camera for free, so i could install it on my 06 tacoma.

Ive got the camera with the harness that should be connected to the oem harness around the tailights, and the rear viw mirror with its harness.
As i got to know the 06 didnt come prewired, so im missing the wire harness part that connects both.

I would like to know if theres possibility to make this run and work, if im missing something more than the wiring (a module for the camera which ive aknwoledged its 6v), or i can just wire it and get it to work.

    Has anyone done this before?

    thanks in advance.

Just did the same thing in my 2006 a few weeks ago, I only had the mirror and camera and had to build my own harness. I used the existing plug that should have been for a compass display up top (I have sr5) for power and ground points, I ran my reverse signal wire down to an ecu wire on the passenger side behind the glove box and spliced into it. Then ran my 4 camera signal wires to the back through one of the passenger grommets in the floor, along the frame and into the tail gate, you will have to drill a hole in the bottom of your tail gate as ours didn't come with one. Ill get my wiring diagrams out in a few minutes before I head to bed and try and post it for you, easy enough if you have ever used auto wiring diagrams. Also no module its actually built right into the mirror itself.

Alright this should make things a lot easier for you and anyone else wanting to go this route. First one is your compass or in my case just the blank white connector, I spliced power from the green wire IG+ and ground from E W-B
The next picture is for your reverse signal, you are looking for a small ECU wire that is Red with white strip, the connector your looking for is behind the glove box, its black and has 12 pins, this wire is coming out of pin 6.
The last picture is simply what the wire pins going into the mirror do, and where/how to wire each one up.

Couple last things I just thought of, any wiring/harness that is not OEM that goes from mirror to camera you might need to make needs to be shielded or else you could run into picture quality problems from interference. You will also need a different tail gate handle to support the camera, hopefully it comes with a mount to actually hold the camera in place cause mine did not :(

    Good luck!

    Thanks shthawk.
Thats exactly what I was looking for!!
    The information it's great.

In my case I got a pop and lock with the camera mount, and already got the overhead compass.

I'll try to make this work with your instructions.
