I'm considering purchasing an 08 PreRunner Sport with 177k. It had a TRD supercharger and full exhaust installed at the dealer at 10k and is very clean. Although it has a lot highway miles my concern is with the transmission as is has never been serviced as the dealer told him that it did not need to be. I know that he has used it to tow a trailer. Is this something that I should be concerned with?
    Thanks for your time.

177k and original trans fluid is a lot of miles. Should have been changed every 60k and a full flush around 100k. If you are able to pull the check bolt and see if the fluid is red (ish) if so then it should be good if it is dark brown or black than I would walk away. But a SC might be hard to walk away from. Read here to learn where the check bolt is www.tacomaworld.com/threads/diy-full-flush-for-automatic-transmission.68462/

My '08 has 271k, was a service truck for a forklift company, all services done BUT the trans fluid (because Toyota said it didn't NEED it)

i bought it at 255k, drove it to 262k and decided to service trans, only because my own curiosity was getting the best of me.

clean, there was very little debris in the pan, 6 magnets in the pan had some, but nothing unusual or surprising. i was more surprised how much it didn't have in the pan.

You see the fluid drips, slightly dark but still red, no burnt smell at all. Use Valvoline MAXLIFE to flush and fill.drives well, tows well, trans temps are 130°-170° in normal driving

I've serviced GM transmissions with 30k that the pan and fluid looked like it had been there for 200k. (and smelled like it).

If its driving well, and shifting well, you'll have no issues either way.

the "filter" is actually a fine screen, DO NOT get a kit with a cork gasket.
