Thanks for the encouragement...I've recruited a friend who knows cars in need of money. Between the two of us, hopefully we can figure this out!

Thanks for the advice. I've checked it out and they do pop up on occasion...I can live with the steelies for awhile, but I'd like to at least upgrade to the TRD OR wheels when I put on new tires.

PM if you run into any issues. Just screw the clutch switch in far enough to make the pedal is approx same as where it was before going by the brk pedal height.

It's not new, it's not Mexico
I went ahead and spent the $430 to have Accessories Unlimited (the shop the dealer uses) install my cruse control. I know that's a lot but it was worth it. Instead of spending half a day upside down in foot well of my truck, I went looking at gun shops with my son.

Exactly, the sr5 on reg cabs is not the same as other sr5s. I know there are some plug and plat cruise control kits available too.

The oem parts cost less than 120.00 if you need the clutch switch, 100.00 if not. It takes about 30 minutes to plug in & that's including removing the lower half of the dash if you have clutch switch to install. Automatic doesn't have that so no dash action needed on those. Putting the stalk and wire on the steering wheel is kids play and takes about 5 minutes. The money saved could have bought a good bit of gun accessories or other truck mods or whatever. That's what makes it worth doing.

I don't enjoy working on my vehicles, so no, it's not worth it to me. :)

LMAO! You sir got raped in your anus without a lube! It took me HALF an HOUR to install the Cruise control and $60 in parts! Even if I were to charge $110/hour in labor I would still be $170 in it NOT $430, wow someone made out big there...

Well, I ordered the parts (I ordered 6 screws as I had no idea how many to order). Anyway, here was the total cost:

    Items Total: $123.25
    Shipping: $18.49
    Handling Fee: $0.00
    Order Total: $141.74

So, versus $450 ("discounted" rate quote from the stealership), I'll have $142 in parts and still be able to throw a buddy some money for helping me.

I'm a bit confused on getting to the clutch switch as the link in the how-to is dead (ie removing the door panels, dead pedal, etc.)...anybody seen another link for that procedure?

No link but here ya go...........

Grab door sill and pop up, has about 4-6 spots between back and front.
Unscrew the knob deal on dead pedal and pop it straight up, has 2 spots it clips in.
Pop off kick panel, has 2-3 spots it connects.
Pop out plate around e-brake - 3 connectors.
Open screw cover on lower dash panel and remove bolt under ebrake.
    Remove bolt over by door.
Pop dash loose by pulling out straight back towards seat.
Unclip hood release from dash and panel should be free unless TPMS reset but wiring for that should allow panel to be out of way.
Now undo 3 10mm bolts on fuse box and move it down out of way. It doesn't move very far tho.
Now you should be able to see the top of the clutch pedal and the bolt with lock nut that the clutch switch replaces.
Unlock nut with wrench and remove the bolt.
Now, you will have the white connector in view maybe taped to wiring harness right in that area that plugs onto switch. Release it from the harness and wind it up backwards where when you screw in clutch switch the wires will become untwisted. Preload it of sorts because there is not room to get connector on after mounting the switch. You will see what I mean. Make sure to screw in the switch where your pedal is similar in height from the floor like it was before. Screwing it in more moves pedal down towards the floor.
Just put it all back in reverse starting with bolting fuse panel back in.

Sounds scary but is really not once you get doing it. I know you're worrying about breaking clips but I've had this apart numerous times and have broken no clips. Sorry, didn't take pics when I did it..........

Thank you so much! Hopefully between my "car guy" buddy and myself we can do this...it is encouraging to know so many have done it.

I appreciate the time you took to answer! Now, I just have to wait another 2 weeks on the transfer from Carmax and delivery of the parts, then I'll give it a go. Starting to get excited - already ordered a UWS box as well and I'm now looking at bed extenders (I'm used to an extended cab w/no toolbox).

Same here, just recently traded my 05 access cab for 08 reg cab. I need the mpg & less expensive tires & power to pass with AC on more often than the extra room. I have a cargo box for my car roof rack that can ride in the back of the truck if I need extra weatherproof storage that bad.

Thanks again for all of the suggestions on OEM cruise control installation. Man, if it was an AT it would have taken 30 minutes tops. We attempted the install w/out removing the lower dash to no avail; more than a PITA, it was nearly impossible. Anyway, total install time was less than an 1 1/2 hours, would have been under an hour if we would have removed the dash panel right off the bat.

Cool! Y'all weren't alone. I had my lower dash back off this weekend after finally getting off my ass and installing my fog switches and running the wiring taken from the 05 when I stripped it down recently before trading for the 08 so now my HID oem fogs are actually more than decoration for the bumper. Damn what a difference, lol......
