Hello new to TW sorry if I started this post wrong, Anyways just wondering if it’s possible to swap a 09’ 1gr-fe into a newer 13’ Tacoma. I know 13’ has SAI heads but wouldn’t that just throw a code if a 09’ engine is installed? Or would I need to transfer 09’ electricals. If anyone knows if I can swap a 09’ into a 13’ Tacoma please let me know. I’m mostly wondering if there is added sensors on the newer model harness and also different connectors. Thank you

05-11 Tacoma 4.0 engines are the same and 12-15s are the same, the difference is the cylinder heads and exhaust manifolds are different on the 12+ to accommodate the SAIS and don't interchange without changing the manifolds as well.

You would either need a SAIS bypass kit, or delete tune to use the 09 engine in a 13 or you will likely be in limp mode because of the SAIS not working.

Everything else about the engine is the same but you still never want to use the harness and stuff from the donor engine when doing an engine swap, always use the harness, injectors, sensors, etc that is original to the truck as manufacturers often change minute things in wiring between years/models even though the base engine/electrical is the same.
One pin that is in a different spot on a connector in a harness or a bad sensor/injector/etc on the donor engine can make you pull your hair out so it's always best to use as much stuff original to the vehicle as possible providing it's good when swapping an engine.
