So your rack would mount to the box bottom taking up box space and negating the ability to have a chest style toolbox .

I'll stick to the rail mount system

Maybe I'm not following you , but having a 1"x1" square channel in the very corner of the box still doesn't get it over to the bed bolts which are inboard of the bedsides by 6" or so , also I think that the spread out mounting of two bed rail bolts 14" apart is more purchase for the rack than a 1"x1" square channel roughly 3' tall .

I would be worried about the leverage applied to the top when under load .

A chest style box sits in between the bedsides on the floor of the box , I think you are referring to a crossbox .

I had never thought of having my tools with me when I go to a job as " impractical "

The design of the headache rack I have , which is similar to the Backrack , puts the vertical load on the front corner of the box bedside , the bolts in the bedrails only serve to counteract leverage exerted on the top of the rack .

I've hauled hundreds of pounds of long lumber , up to 20' with this system as well as 6x8 fir timbers without any issues .

If you really want a dedicated bomb proof rack system , you may enjoy this thread

Or over criticize an already proven design and mounting system , as proven in your first post in this thread where you stated the Backrack design was inferior and something that could be built in 10 minutes for $15 .

FWIW , my rack is aluminum not stainless .

For most people that don't have welding skills or access to a welding shop , $250 is probably reasonable .

    I'm not offended
