I just hooked up some ID CTX65cs and discovered that the tweeters are not marked + and -. Were yours this way too? I am assuming that the copper colored wire goes to the + but who know?

WOW, this is something you should use more often. I am talking about your gift of doing a neat job. I am pretty sure some guys would pay little bit more to have a piece of mind.

I did not see any mention about the OEM Satelite reciever and antena. Where you not able to use them ???. Why did you installed a new sat tuner ???. I am asking because I am planing to upgrade my HU with the (Kenwood 9140- ********* DI speakers) and I tought that I may be able to use the OEM reciever and antena. They would not work ???

How do you like the front speakers from ********* ?? Thank you.

That was a super clean install. Typically I'll just stuff everything under something and make it happen, but you've forced me to take a second look at my own install and try and clean it up a bit. Thanks!

That's what I did... I put the copper on the +... they sound so nice! You get yours in yet?

You should've seen me on my street after my install was done!

Thanks! I did not use the OEM Satellite receiver because I already had the Pioneer XM Receiver that was compatible with my Pioneer AVIC-Z2. I am, however, utilizing the OEM antenna with the help of an aftermarket cable. There is a picture in the install where I placed the Pioneer XM unit (behind the glove box/tied to the computer bracket) and where I plugged the attached XM cable to the OEM antenna connector (behind the driver's side foot panel). I don't know if the OEM receiver will work with an aftermarket stereo as it seems the connectors between the two may be different. You can still use the antenna though like I did. The OEM antennas are on 09 models and up.

The front speakers I got from ********* are the Image Dynamics XS65's... they are so very nice and sound so clear!

Thanks man! Let me know if you want some ideas or help with an install.

Thanks! I'm borderline OCD with wire cleanliness, so I'm glad I could help. Actually, I'm not sure if I should say your welcome or sorry for making you go back through your install. :D

I am very happy with my ID's. I am about to get some ID coaxials for the rear doors.

    Octane,

I am looking at ********* packaged systems. I noticed you went with the smaller box. Is there any reason you did not get the ported subwoofer box?

I am having a tough time deciding on my system. 1 JL HD 5 channel or 2 PDXs like you have. Small sub box or large.

I like the idea of one amp, but I am understanding the dual PDXs will yield better overall results.

Is there any changes you would recommend? I head the XS speakers in a customer truck at local Toyota dealer and I they sound way better than my Focals I had in my IS. I am supposed to get to hear the CTX65CS tomorrow in another demo truck.

BTW, your system is so clean. Looks way better than what custom sounds did on my IS. I was going to have mine installed but I may do myself.

Let us know what you think about the CTX65cs. That is what I went with in my 03 DC and I am pretty happy with them off half of a Cadence 4060.

The reason I didn't go with the ported sub box with the 12" instead of the smaller box with the 10" is because he didn't have that option when I first talked to him. I probably would've gone with the bigger box and put my amps under my front seats. I do like having my amps mounted away from people's feet and away from the elements, but I would've gone the other way if the option was available. Don't get me wrong... I'm not at all disappointed with my setup now. It still sounds awesome, but I guess I could've gotten more from the 12" and ported box.

I also like having dual amps... but, saying that, the 5-channel PDX-5 would've been just fine with the 10" I have now. It could save you some money so you don't have to buy two amps as well. I would recommend two subs for better results if you go with the 12" ported box... but still you could use the PDX-5 with the 12", too.

As far as my setup goes, I really wouldn't change anything! I absolutely love the XS speakers up front, and the CTX65's are great for rear fill in the back doors. I really don't think I could have a better setup, except maybe a 12" sub in the back. Again though, the 10 still hits really really nice.

Thanks for the props! I spent a week doing my install, and it was well worth it! Just knowing that I took the time and ran every wire correctly, didn't jam or bunch anything and correctly installed speakers, FatMat, and stereo components really eases the mind... makes you feel good too. :D

BTW, this was probably my fourth stereo install, and my second involving amps. Really, anyone can do an install like this if they take their time and ask questions.

    Thanks man!

So, how long do you think it would take to re-create your setup time wise? Need to find out how many days I got to take off work, haha.

Im still putting money away for a good setup.

If took me a week, but I didn't take days off of work... I drove to work with the interior guts hanging out. I spent about 6 hours every night and a full weekend on the whole install. Most of that time was taking breaks and sitting... staring... rethinking the layout and placement of wires, etc. You could get it done like I did in 3 to 4 days easy with no work, if you're as anal as I am with the install. LOL

Wow you really did this one great!

Did you do either the floors or the roof with Fat mat? And can you hear any issues with those areas?

Thank you for taking pictures and writing all the info out. This will really help with everyones install.

This should be a "Sticky...!" :D

I met up with Tim here in SA. He purchased the lower end system from *********.. The dude is like 60 years old. I spent almost 2 hours talking trucks, stereos and bikes. The system is for his long drives across Texas and New Mexico he hauls his harleys to bike meets. I think he had 5 cars and 4 bikes.

In my opinion, the CTX65CS speakers are killer for the money and great sound. I think they sounded as good as my focals I had in my IS that cost about $500. I also could not believe how much sound that little PDX5 was pumping out. But I am pretty sure I am going with the higher end system. The X65 speakers sound so clear and crisp---not really sure how to describe---- at low and high volume. Since I plan to tailgate a lot I want a really loud system and I never thought I was that much of a “bass” person until I heard good clear bass. Nickelback sounds so good on the system I am planning to get. Plus if I get the urge to bump the dance music for the girls I can do that also.

I would say If you have the cash get the X65 and get an amp with lots of power. If you don’t have the cash get the CTX65CS and you will still be happy. I had never heard of Image Dynamics until I heard them in a Tacoma.

I was very impressed when he told me he did the install himself. He was quoted almost $600 by local audio shop for the install. Said the toughest part was the ported subwoofer box. I did not realize that thing weighs almost 100lbs.. . . He only has the 10" subwoofer.

He said just go slow, don’t rush or have a deadline or you won’t have fun doing it.

I didn't do the roof... the only major noise from there is a hard rain, and even that isn't bad. The floor is pretty major because it's closest to the road... but I didn't do that either. The flooring is pretty thick and insulated, and I had the undercoating done. Once I undercoated and fatmat'd the doors and back wall, it's REALLY quiet in the cab... like luxury car quiet.

And, your welcome! I'm glad my post can help anyone out with any questions they may have. =)

Who's this guy you're talking about... I don't think I know him? I would have to agree with you... spending the money to get the Image Dynamics XS65's for the front doors and CTX65's for the back doors is an EXCELLENT investment!

You noted you met with someone named Tim... I wasn't sure who that was or if I was supposed to know him? Probably not, but he and I do have a lot in common, since we both have Tacomas, Harleys, and custom tunes. :D
