Not many recently. I looked at Wikipedia for the list and the only ones w/in the last 20 years that have done well in the NFL are Charles Woodson, Reggie Bush (and he's not GREAT), Eddie George, Desmond Howard, and Ricky Williams (though, he's had plenty of issues)

There are MANY more examples of people who have done little or nothing, like Eric Crouch from Nebraska, who (I'm pretty sure) never even ended up playing in the NFL.

One noteable runner-up who has done very well: Peyton Manning, who lost to Charles Woodson, the ONLY defensive player to win since 1961.

I have no problem with Colt winning the Heisman:

NCAA - Highest Career completion percentage: 70.9%
NCAA - Most wins by a starting quarterback with 44

Ricky Williams won it breaking 16 NCAA records, but the big one was the total yards. That took a whole career. Ron Dane broke the record the following year, but that also took a career. Colt is no different and I have no issues with him winning.

If it was still about one season - Spiller, Gehert or Suh should be there.

sometimes tho...when your team is a middle of the pack team with no real major accomplishments in the past 20 some odd years...and your instate rival has a heisman winner...and john heisman coached at your team's school...and you have someone whos actually DESERVING of the award...you kinda want them to at LEAST be invited to the ceremony

I missed this comment before... Just in case, I wanted to make sure I was clear that in comments that I didn't say Texas didn't deserve to win in 2005. I was agreeing that, on paper, they shouldn't have won. They played damn well that night. I remember it as one of the best NC games I've ever watched.

At least they invited 5 people instead of 3 this year.

I heard on the radio that they usually just invite however many people there are before a big drop-off in votes. Last year, the fourth person was so far behind the third that he didn't warrant an invite. I always thought that they just invited 5 people, but I guess not.

Paul Finebaum (local sports radio guy) had somebody on his show yesterday that's accurately predicted the winner in the last 7 Heisman votes by using information gathered from voters who have put their votes out there. Last year he predicted that Tebow would have the most 1st place votes, but wouldn't win it. People said there was a flaw in his logic, and that he was nuts... but it turned out to be true. (The guy's website is stiffarmtrophy.com if you want to check it out for yourself.)

Anyway... FWIW, he said it's going to be a hella-close vote this year between Ingram and Gerhart. He won't make his official projection until Friday or so, though.

Ya, I understand about the whole point drop off, but even being invited is a HUGE honor. If you remember the year before when Colt Brennan was there, he got blown away in the points. I know everyone hates losing but even getting invited would be bad ass. I didnt even hear any talk all year of Suh until after the Big 10 game.

That's cuz you're all the way out there in Cali. I didn't hear much about him around here, either, but they've been big on him in Big 12 country all year.

Ya, but I constantly watch sports center and college football shows. Just seems like they waited to see how some people played in the title games to see who to give him an invite IMO. I could be wrong.

If you think about it that is a fairly small list.

They invite the top X vote receivers (5 this year, 3 last year, etc). They didn't invite him b/c of publicity... they invited him b/c he rec'd enough votes to warrant inclusion.

I understand the whole process, but I cant remember who it was, but I think it was the Texas Tech coach who said something about it last year. just kinda said his QB deserved to be there even if he was 5th place, its just being there.

You're right, it was Michael Leach saying that. He thought it was a sham that McCoy and Bradford went and his kid didn't. I thought it was a crap argument. His guy wasn't as good in the eyes of the voters. I don't think the Heisman people owe anything to anybody as far as invites go.

In fact, if I were a coach of a Heisman candidate, I'd rather my player didn't go as a courtesy. I wouldn't want the distraction if he didn't have a legit chance of winning.

I'm not saying it was the reason, but all that whining Leach did and they got smoked in the Cotton bowl by Ole Miss.
