Did you write that stuff on a sign and bring it to the Iron Bowl this year? You should have... that's some good moral-victory material.

In 3 seasons Alabama has finished: nowhere, 6th in the country, and now we're playing for the national title. Two years from now, I'm willing to bet that AU doesn't even have another SEC West title, let alone a SECC or NC victory. In fact, I'll give you $1,000 if cheese-dick has the Barn playing for the title in New Orleans in January, 2012.

You beat Vanderbilt-North in the New Years Day warm-up game, and took OT to do it. The only reason you were in a New Years Day bowl to begin with is the strong showing you had in a losing effort to Alabama. I wouldn't be bragging too much about that.

At least you gave us the respect of assuming we'd win the NC this year, though. It shows you're not a complete tard.

Tempting... don't you have a TV in another room I can watch? It's cold outside. I'll only come out to the living room at halftime.... and I'll be quiet as a mouse while Saban and the Tide accept the crystal ball.

Sorry, I don't engage in hypothetical hyperbole, I deal exclusively with facts and actual events. And at this point in Saban's Alabama career, he was not as far along as "cheese-dick" (stay classy, Tuscaloosa).

Alabama is an incredible team, and without a doubt their closest game of 2009 came at the hands of Auburn who controlled the scoreboard for 57 (or was it 58?) minutes. Saban has done a terrific job of bringing some competition back to football in the great State of Alabama, as during the past previous decade Alabama was a mere footnote to the true in-state powerhouse.

I realistically doubt Auburn will play for the NC anytime soon however the facts remain that we are headed in the right direction faster than Alabama was at this point in Saban's career Alabama career.

I wish you the best of luck in the NC game and I hope Alabama wins most of their games next year. Good luck on civil discourse too, by the way.

Edit: Oh, and for the record I may in fact be a "complete tard"....

Gosh, I didn't mean to offend you.

What's the point in bragging that Chizick's first year is so much better than Saban's if you have no faith that you'll be playing for anything meaningful in 3 years?

This statement makes absolutely no sense:

If he's doing so much better than Saban was in 2007, and you're headed in the right direction 'faster than Alabama', then why don't you realistically think that he'll be further along than Saban in his 3rd year? If you're really believed that you are so much further along, shouldn't you realistically expect to be undefeated and SEC Champs next year? And CERTAINLY in two years?

I think Tennessee fans would argue that they gave us our closest game, but that's neither here nor there. Congrats on winning the first 57 or 58 minutes of the game. I assume you gave out rings for that.

This is the quote that sums up most Auburn fans to me:
Congrats on being the Alabama State Champion of the past 10 years. If that's what you care about, then bravo to you. You've done quite well for yourselves... a SEC championship, an undefeated season, and (most importantly) a 6-game winning streak against your in-state rival. Nevermind the greatest decade in Auburn football history includes no NC rings. At least you beat the bammers.

    Color me jealous.

The real issue here is respectful discourse.......which Alabama fans seem to be incapable of! Auburn fans are happy for Alabama's best season in decades, and we are glad to once again have a formidable in-state opponent.

Just once I would love to hear "Nice try, maybe you'll get us next year!" from an Alabama fan. But maybe that would be too civilized for the folks in T town. But again, good luck to your team and I wish you the best from Cheeze-dick and co.

The real issue is respectul discourse? I thought the real issue was the moral championship you'd won by having a coach who is better in his first year than Saban was in his first as Alabama's coach.

Honest-to-God, you're the first AU fan I've heard say anything about wishing us luck. Even my good friends who are AU fans are flashing me the Hook'em Horns and saying they hope Alabama gets run. Maybe it's different out in Cali, but you can't throw a rock around here without hitting an AU-turned-Texas fan.

Don't act like every AU fan in the world is the classiest, most pro-SEC fan ever. Not to mention your coach taunting Alabama fans by holding up fingers after the streak got going. Just because you think you're better than Alabama fans doesn't mean that Auburn fans in general are a step above.

FWIW, I AM the fan that used to say "Good game... we'll see you next year," until after the Iron Bowl when all I heard from AU fans was "Gator Bait, Gator Bait," as I walked out of the stadium. We took care of that issue, and now all I hear is "Hook'em Horns."

Even the comment you make about AU fans being happy for Alabama's 'best team in decades' and being glad to once again have a 'formidable in-state oppoenent' isn't what I would consider respectful discourse. Don't think we're too stupid to understand sarcasm.

If you want me to say it, I will... The 2009 Iron Bowl was a nice try. Another 90 seconds and you would have had us. Maybe you will beat us next year, and win the only thing you ever cared about anyway, another Alabama state title.

A little food for thought before tomorrow night's national championship game...

Think Alabama has 12 national championships? Look a little closer. The NCAA only recognizes 7, but five of them were split titles with two or more teams. Alabama only actually has two outright National Championships (’79, ’92). Don't believe me, check out the facts...

    Alabama's supposed 12
    1925 – 10-0 – split title with Dartmouth
    1926 – 9-0-1 – split with Stanford
1930 – 10-0 Notre Dame and Alabama went 10-0, NCAA recognizes Notre Dame
    1934 – 10-0 NCAA recognizes Minnesota
1941 – 9-2 NCAA recognizes Minnesota – Texas was named champions by the AP and does not claim a national championship. Alabama finished 3rd in the SEC, and No. 20 in the AP (were never ranked higher than 7th)
    1961 – 11-0 - split with Ohio State
1964 – 10-1, Lost bowl game 21-17 to Texas. NCAA recognizes Alabama, Arkansas and Notre Dame as champions
1965 – 9-1-1, NCAA recognizes Alabama and Michigan State
1973 – 11-1 – spilt with Notre Dame (finished 4th, lost to Notre Dame in bowl game)
1978 – 11-1 – split with USC (USC beat Alabama 24-14 in Birmingham)
1979 – 12-0 – first year NCAA recognizes Alabama as unanimous national champion
    1992 – 13-0 – second unanimous NC

On the flip side, Auburn only recognizes 1 (1957), but by this logic could claim 8 national championships - 7 undefeated seasons (Alabama has 8 undefeated seasons)

    1913 – 8-0 (no polls before 1934)
    1914 – 8-0-1
    1932 – 9-0-1
1957 – 10-0 (only undefeated team that year)
    1958 – 9-0-1
1983 – 11-1 (finished 3rd and both teams ahead of Auburn lost their bowl games)
1993 – 11-0 (only undefeated team that year)
2004 – 13-0, Bull Crap System kept them out

Still not a believer, check out this article that ran today in the Birmingham News...http://blog.al.com/solomon/2010/01/got_12.html

You're the first person to say that Alabama's 12 NC's aren't really 12... Seriously. That is brand-new information.

Apparently there's no argument about the 1979 or 1992 championships, so Alabama's count so far is: 2

Saying that split NC's don't really count is a non-argument. Do you tell La. State and USC that their championships don't count from 2003 b/c the BCS chose one and the AP chose the other? Maybe you do. If so, WHO was the champion that year? It couldn't have been either of the teams that split, right?

If your only argument is that we didn't earn the title b/c it was split with somebody else, then you're discounting 7 championships (1925, 1926, 1961, 1964, 1965, 1973, 1978).

Like I said before, taking away a team's NC because they split it with somebody else makes no sense. There's no legitimate argument to give the other team the NC... afterall, THEY split it with Alabama!

So I'll take those 7 championships back, thank you. Alabama's count is up to 9

Also, the bowl system has evolved over time. I notice that you complain about the "Bull Crap System" in 2004 when AU went undefeated. So the system today is flawed, but it used to be perfect???

The system back in the day awarded the NC before the bowl games were played. Saying a bowl game doesn't count b/c it was awarded before a bowl loss is another non-argument. It's legitimate to recognize a championship awarded by the system everybody uses, regardless of whether or not you think it's fair.

The championships named above where Alabama lost the bowl game coincide with several of the split-titles, so I won't double count.

I have no explanation for the remaining 3 championships (1930, 1934, 1941). You can take those away if you want.

    Alabama's National Championships: 9

I don't know what to do with the 1913 season. Like you said, no polls.

1914, 1932, 1958 you were undefeated... but apparently somebody else won the championship. If you'd split it with somebody, I'd agree that you won it. The system in place decided that another team (or teams) won. It doesn't count.

1957 - You won it. Though, I find it funny that the school wasn't Auburn at the time... it was Alabama Polytechnic Institute until 1960. I can't find a picture of Auburn's NC Trophy... does it say Auburn or API? Still, it's a legit NC. Auburn/API's NC count: 1

1983 - Miami beat a previously undefeated Nebraska team in the Orange bowl that year. (I don't know where you got your facts that the "two teams ahead of AU lost their bowl games.") Miami had a loss from the beginning of the year, but finished the season strong, again by WINNING their Bowl Game vs. Nebraska. It looks like the voters just cared about Miami more than Auburn that year. That was the system.

1993 - You can't win a national championship on probation. Don't even bring that season up.

2004 - System in place (though clearly "Bull Crap," right?) kept AU out b/c USC and Oklahoma were undefeated in the same year and AU couldn't jump either one in the BCS poll. Just bad luck, but USC won the NC game, and the AP agreed they were a better team than Auburn.

    Auburn's National Championships: 1

I guess you partially won your argument. I'm conceding 3 championships. I guess I'll just have to make do with 9.

Bama 31 Texas 10. McCoy is good, but crumbled against a good defense in Nebraska. Now he has to play the #1 defense in the country. Good luck, you're gonna need it.
