K&N wl love U for the ‘ smoother ‘ clutch........................

the refineries will switch blends seasonally to mitigate starting complaints

    from there loyal customers

as usual filling station tanks are NOT supposed to be run dry

its possible there to be the previous blunder gallons still n the tank

not sure farmer John is goin to override the distributor

U NEVER mentioned UR average MPG per tank when it was g o o d .............

nor what U think is crappy at this latest date

Ok, so - you are unwilling to make any changes to the things that are most likely causing your issues. Do I have that right?

I know this is a Tacoma Forum and I have a Tacoma, but gas mileage is dependent on many things and one is good maintenance just like anything else with a vehicle. The screenshot below is from a 2019 Z71 Silverado, V8, 4 door. Average MPG 15.6, best 29.2.
Here's the short story on the 29.2 MPG. The 29.2 mpg was accomplished on an ice fishing trip to Lake of the Woods. I drove up to my brothers' house in Mora, MN, then we took his vehicle to Lake of the Woods. He/we didn't want to get there before the lodge restaurant opened up at 6:00 am so on the last third of the trip he set the cruise control at 40 MPH. It didn't bother me as I slept about half the trip and his normal day starts at about 1:00 am anyway. Remember, this was winter driving. A good conversation piece when he trades it in, which he'll probably do, as he doesn't plan on resetting it.
Want to get great mpg, slow down, 4x4 trucks aren't made for great MPG.
My Ultra gauge shows the average for my Tacoma at about 17.7 mpg and my excel spreadsheet is close enough that I'm not worried about the difference. My lowest is 11.8 and my highest is 23.9, according to my spreadsheet.

If the MPG is drastically different than a known previous MPG.
I’d probably look at fuel trims. Primary the LT trims. I’m not sure when Toyota sets a CEL but it is well up in the Teens and possibly 20’s.

+ Positive Trims means it is adding fuel to compensate for a LEAN condition.
    - Negative Trims means the truck is pulling fuel to compensate for a RICH condition.

K&N filters are a total waste of money.
They do nothing at all for your truck that the factory setup doesnt do already.

Thanks for the help. K&N and I have a long history of proof from other vehicles and I used them in such vehicles as 2007 Kia V6 Sportage and a 2002 taco V6 4wd, 2001 wd taco cai, and 1997 civic(before I put a K&N in the box I got 38 mpg, after 42. I once drove 8-9hrs from east to west to east in Ohio and filled up 1 hour from my home and the trip set said 562 miles and I still had a little bit less than a gallon left and didn't want to chance it. That was K&N).
My mileage before was 17-18, last time I checked it it was 13-14 in October and then the winter idling season started and haven't checked it since, but the gas gauge LEAVES the full mark around 40-50 miles and before it was leaving around 70-80 miles. BUT HERE IS ANOTHER THING.....CAPS FOR EMPHASIS-I changed my oil yesterday and the oil filler neck and the oil filler cap both had the telltale signs of snotty oil, but not on the dipstick. Now as we all know, our taco's use Red Coolant, but this was very lite green, probably more tan, I smelled it and I wasn't really getting a sweet smell, maybe slightly. I only have 116k on the truck, HOW IN THE WORLD CAN MY HEAD BE GOING ALREADY? I wish I had my 02 Taco back, BULLETPROOF. I ALSO PUT THE GAS TREATMENT, I LOVE GAS TREATMENTS, HAVE SEEN GREAT RESULTS WITH SEAFOAM, BUT I DIGRESS, SO I JUST PUT THE EVERLAST(THE MAKER OF BOATS) GAS TREATMENT IN-I BOUGHT IT @ WALMART. It said it helps with ethanol gas and regular gas. COULD THIS BE WHAT I AM SEEING?...........I PUT IT IN THE GAS TANK, NOT THE ENGINE. CARS AND TRUCKS ARE A NECESSARY EVIL. Could this be the cause of my poor mileage the head possibly going?

    Ok....no need for such emphasis.

As I stated before. Its due for the 100k maintenance.

Stop idling after start to "warm up" the truck. No need. Start it, buckle up, place into gear, drive easy until the temperature gage moves off "C".

The "snotty oil" is most likely from condensation in the crankcase mixing with the oil. Take the truck on a 30+ minute drive. This trip will give engine time to evaporate and remove any moisture from the engine. This "snotty oil" is typical from short trips when the engine doesn't fully heat soak.

Suggest to steer clear of the miracle in a can treatments. Those are best left on the store shelf. Modern gasoline has all the cleaners and additives your engine will need.

No need to stomp the Panic button regarding the head gasket. Your descriptions of the symptoms are not too severe.

BTW, fuel mileage will always decrease in the winter. Several causes, winter blend fuel, richer fuel mix on start up, snow/ice covered roads, declining tire pressure, stiffer lubes and grease........many causes.
My truck was getting 19+ mpg in October. January it fell to bottom 17s mpg. Nearly a 10% drop in a couple months. February is typically colder, I expect more mpg reduction, 15-16 mpg wouldn't surprise me.

dunno sounds like normal, especially if you warm your truck in the morning. Shit mine runs for a good 10-15 minutes everyday in the winter so i know where my bad mileage is coming from
