Don't listen to the asshat. Once I got the new amp its a great system, and I've had high end aftermarket systems in a Camaro and a Supra I used to have for years so I know something about good audio.

For a stock system you wont be dissapointed.

I agree. I was happy with the setup before I got the amp changed - I only noticed problems on a few songs on my iPhone, but after the amp change it sounds even better and no distortion at all!

I am really looking forward to getting my new truck waiting since March 2nd. I ordered the JBL system thinking I was doing the right thing..Thanks for the support. Should have the truck by the end of next week, it is somewhere between San Diego and NYS.

Apparently, it looks like I'm having the same issue and I have a 2008 DC Tacoma. I heard the popping/crackling a few times, but I mostly can notice the "blowing in the mic" sound that others on this forum have described. It was easy to hear without even having the music blasting. This is the reason that some of you have had the "new amp" from JBL installed, right? I did purchase the extended warranty so I should be covered.

Have there been any other 2008 Tacoma owners that have had their amp replaced?

There are alot of things Toyota says are "normal" for this truck. I disagree with them. Owned other Toyota trucks prior...this one .......not up to standard IMHO. Do a search for "normal" issues with this truck.

I have noticed this on a few occassions and it has only happened when I play the Ipod. I will be going to my dealer this week to get this fixed. Is there somewhere on the internet I can find out more about the JBL exchange program.

Thankfully I don't have the JBL system. For once I'm a head of the curve. My last vehicle (Nissan) was a train wreck from stereo to transmission. Anyhow, this sounds like a ground problem and I'm surprised replacing the amp works. I know in years past if the ground wasn't properly secured then my rear sub would pop, etc. Hope you guys can get a TSB or quick resolution. Nothing more frustrating than being told something is normal when you know its not. And, to top it off; dealerships saying there is nothing they can do. WTF! is that about!

I purchased my Tacoma a few weeks ago and took it in for the "wind" sound coming out of the speakers, specifically the woofer. I took it to Whittier Toyota in CA. At first they said they couldn't hear the problem. I was there to pick it up and showed them the sound. They said they will look into ordering the necessary parts for it.
Well its been a week and a half and they called me today saying that the parts came in. I don't know if that means its a new amp, but I will be sure to see what they are going to put in my truck before they do anything. Will update with the results.
Can't believe they want a 6 hour window to fix this issue.

guys, I went thru 3 dealerships and a ton of aggravation to get this resolved. Make sure you speak to the service manager, go right to the top of the food chain. Tell him you are there to get a new amp for your 7 speaker JBL system to correct a known issue with distortion. Demonstrate it for them. Don't let him call their regional Toyota guy, he will just say wait for a TSB, which there may never be one. If he wants to make a call, tell him call JBL, and ask about their exchange program to correct the issue with the amps in the new Tacoma. Remember there is no profit in this for the dealer, so expect some dragging of feet, but stay on them, and use the threat of calling the Toyota Customer Satisfaction Center to complain about the hard time you are getting. I did, so I know there is at least one complain logged about this amp there. They will get on the phone with your dealer and light a fire under them.
If you have a 09, and the "blowing in the mic" sound with mp3 and or bassy songs, its the amp. Its not a ground or the sub. If you search you will find 10 other threads all over the net about this. If you really hit a wall of aggravation just buy the new amp yourself from Toyota and install it yourself. It can't be that much money.

Ah, so you were the one who notified Toyota of Whittier about this. I just got off the phone with Sam (service mgr) about this and he was aware of it and he did mention that Toyota is aware of the problem and is trying to find a resolution for this and he was also aware of the rear spring TSB and was very helpful with it. I am currently waiting for a return call from Sam to see what the outcome would be on my 09.

Well Toyota of Whittier pulled through and gave me a new amp. Sounds so much better. I guess with me and DriverSound giving them a few cars to work on today, it might be a good dealer to go to if you live in the area. At least they know the problem and how to fix it. I wish the Rear Suspension would be that easy to get the TSB done.

Toyota of Whittier is ordering me a new amp for my truck so I'm happy about that part. I still have to fight for my spring tsb. We'll see.... thanks rpparkster!

It's good to see some members are getting their amps replaced. I'm just hoping that I don't have an issue since most are reporting the "blowing in the mic/wind" issue on 2009's and I have a 2008.

I mean, it's pretty easy to hear that sound on my store bought CDs and burned CDs. I mostly listen to hip hop, rap, and R&B and can notice it at very low volumes.

Do you guys think it will be an issue?

I don't think it would be an issue since they didn't hassle me about it and was able to replicate the problem. Also that it occurs on all cd,mp3,radio, and Xm so the music format isn't the problem.

Plus you can always reference Toyota of Whittier to your dealership and ask them to speak to the service manager who is aware of the problem.

Just took my truck in for the 10,000 mile rip-off, mentioned the problem, let 'em hear that awful noise, they called Toyota to confirm, then they ordered the part. This was at Frontier Toyota in Valencia for people who wanted to know. Should be in next week! Will update then.:D

I just decided to contact Harman directly (like some other members have done). I emailed them on Sunday. Haven't heard anything yet.

How long did it take for a response for those that emailed Harman?

I took my truck in to the dealership on Friday May 1st and they called today (5/6) and said that my new amp from JBL has arrived and ready to be installed.

You can reach Herman Sterling, a customer relation rep for Harman/JBL directly at 516-860-7778.

I emailed Harman and I guess he was out so I got an auto reply with that information.
