    Hello,
I just joined the forum and and am hoping to become a Tacoma owner soon. I looked at a 2009 SR5, 5 speed Manual, 4 cylinder, 4WD with 99,000 miles. I really liked the truck. It was pretty clean and well maintained. Some rust, but better than many of the same age in Upstate NY. The main issue I want help with is that the mechanic I had look at it scanned it with a good Autel scan tool. It had numerous codes active in the 4WD system. The 4WD engaged and worked fine. There were no engine, ABS, or traction control lights on. The mechanic thought it might just be a fluke/anomaly especially when he could not actually erase the codes. I'm looking for advice if anyone has experienced anything similar? Could these be real codes even if no lights are actually on or is one of the computers failing? Should I just walk away?

    The codes are as follows
    1. C0371-Yaw Rate Sensor
    2. C1271-Low output signal rf speed sensor
    3. C1272- Low output signal lf speed sensor
    4. C1273- Low output signal rr speed sensor
    5. C1274- Low output signal lr speed sensor
    6. C1275- Abnormal change in output signal of rf speed sensor
    7. C1276- Abnormal change in output signal of lf speed sensor
    8. C1277- Abnormal change in output signal of rr speed sensor
    9. C1278- Abnormal change in output signal of lf speed sensor
    10. C1281- Master cylinder pressure sensor output abnormal
    11. C1282- Center differential lock position sensor

    Thanks!

    Reserected from the dead.
Someone took out the dash and removed the bulb.

    Those codes would worry me.

No the dash lights are fine, when you turn the key from Accessory to On they all light up as expected.

I generally like Autel scan tools, I personally own an MD802. But I will say, their hacked-ass software will occasionally do some weird stuff, although I can't say I've ever witnessed it with Toyotas. But I've seen it either refuse to connect, or pull up weird stuff that other scanners didn't, on Nissans and some Euro cars.

The fact that it can't erase them would have me wondering if it didn't get fooled by digital ghosts. Like... those last 2 I don't even think are a thing on that truck...

Edit: Googled the C1281 & 1282, the C1282 did bring up some hits mentioning part-time 4WD (which the Tacoma has) but also made reference to the "skid control ECU (master cylinder actuator)", as did the C1281 code, which would be the TRD-OR/VSC-equipped electro-hydraulic booster-M/C. I also only saw either mentioned in reference to 3rd gen Tacomas. Makes me scratch my head if he selected the vehicle wrong, or just went in in a way that it was looking for things that the truck doesn't have. Unless it's a real oddball that has that VSC master cylinder thing.

I could not find the last two as sensors that exist on Toyota OEM parts sites for this truck.
The mechanic did also say that he has occasionally seen weird stuff show up when he plugged in the scan tool. I’m inclined to believe it.
If they were real codes I assume there would be some kind of dash lights on or something would not work. Mostly seeking clarity on the subject.

If you are still thinking of getting the truck get a different scanner and scan it and see what you get.

those are critical codes and won't be pending, they'd each light up the MIL immediately
also you'd be in limp mode and truck will run slow or not at all

I am going with: improper scan

chuck an old skool 25 dollar OBDII on there and get codes from it to cross reference that other one
