I had to replace the battery and was in the parking lot of O-Reilly's and didn't realize they gave me the wrong battery. (basically LH vs RH, who knew) Terminals were on wrong side and of course you put the terminals close to the cables since they are short.. POS/NEG on wrong terminals and I blew the alt fuse. Had them give me the correct battery and a $4 fuse. Replaced both. (nightmare replacing the ALT fuse, thank you YouTube).

Truck started but as I went to drive away the check engine light and trac control light came on and the truck went into some sort of "safety" mode. Accelerator would not work so I had to limp home in idle at 10mph.

I tried the gas cap trick, nothing and can't seem to find a blown fuse. I don't have a code reader but see from the numerous posts that it might be an O2 sensor or CAT conv but why would the battery overload trigger that? The blown ALT fuse is the fail safe if you hook up a battery wrong, correct?

sorry for the long post but looking for any additional things to check before taking it to a shop and getting the $1200 quote to (fill in the blank) fix something.

When you shorted the battery no telling what other damage you did .

ECM is possible as Battery Current went through the Electrical System.

If I had the EWD for your year I could give you a better idea

    Get a code reader!

Have you pulled the negative battery cable it might clear the codes if the come back you cooked something just need to figure out what

We have a winner!!! It was the ECT fuse. I had checked it before but not well enough. The break in the fuse was so small I had to hold it up to the light to see. Once replaced the engine revs like normal. The check engine light is still on so I still need a reader to reset, and verify nothing else is wrong, but hopefully that was it. Appreciate all the help.
