Sorry to necro this thread, I just needed to answer this post.

No my head unit is not an after market head unit. The entire XM install is 100% Original Toyota parts

I installed mine last weekend, was about $240 for everything, much better than the $699 the dealer wanted to do it.

Yes you do. The fit kit is basically the wire that runs from the XM tuner to the Antennae plug under the drivers side kick panel.

@hendross - Yup it is different for Sirius. This thread is about the XM install hence my answer to Brian is that for the XM install you need the fit kit.

I wanna say thank you!!! After reading this post and seeing all the pictures I was confident enough to go out and find the right parts at a good price and the knowledge to confidently install mine on my own. I installed mine lastnight and it works like a champ!!!! Thanks again!

Q - Hey, does anyone know if the the Toyota XM will still work if you up grade the head unit to a double din? I'm thinking it should with the proper harness but I'm not sure. I am installing a new Eclipse AVN726E on Wednesday. It sure would suck to have to take out the Toyota XM receiver and buy an Eclipse one.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news...but no, the factory XM module will not work with your new head unit. I recently replaced my stock head unit with a Clarion double din with high hopes myself. The wiring harness from the XM module (located under the rear passenger side storage compartment in my Access Cab) has it's own separate harness that plugs directly into the factory receiver. Also, it appears the module itself is powered by factory receiver in addition to having ZERO external outputs. I had to purchase both the aftermarket XM (in my case Sirius - I prefer their programming) as well as the Clarion interface. However, I was able to salvage the factory satellite antenna wire from the old XM receiver and modify it to work with my new Sirius unit. A big plus considering that single wire uses a rather pricey, unique plug (located behind the driver side kick panel). If you can solder at all then you should be able to do it. Good luck!

I appreciate the info man. Maybe I'll be luck and the Eclipse AVN726E will be different. Thanks again.

it appears that the head unit is exactly the same, just curious if anyone has used this thread/instructions on a 10. thanks, and great thread.

the only question that i have is this, do you need to run a cable from the xm receiver all the way to the back of the stereo head unit, or is there a connection in the kick panel for that as well (along with the antennae). i noticed that (potential) step was left out of the tutorial so i am hoping that is the case.

here are my 2 cents in regards to parts/instructions:

FYI, I just did this install today on my '10 Double Cab. Everything went without any problems, probably took only 30-40 min.

So if I am correct the only thing you have to do is mount the box under the back seat then run the wires to the kicker panel? No taking off the stereo or cover or anything?

Then I will definitely be buying the parts from a fellow member and doing this in my new double cab!!!!!! Damn Toyota for installing the antenna, and having it XM ready but not finishing it. That is just shitty building!
