Want to get a rough country 3” lift for my 2020 Tacoma this June. Anyone know of a body lift kit that works with the RC lift kit and knows of any issue I might encounter with it? I saw that the body lift kit results in a gap between the bumper, and what, idk.

I'll enter early with the following.

I'd not use a Rough Country product, and I'd not lift more than 2-2.5"

I'd pass on the body lift.

If you'll state some specific goals, how you use the truck, and what you are willing to spend, you'll get some solid recommendations.

I’m looking at some Yokohama Geolander m/T G003 tires $190 a pop before mounting balancing, etc. I like the lift kit price of $600 but could go as high as $1000 before installation. I’ll mostly be hunting and going rockhounding places where the extra clearance will make for a more comfortable ride. Probably won’t be doing a lot of mudding. I’ll likely do running boards but might not do at same time as lift. I’ll see if I get tired of hopping into the truck. I don’t foresee needing them though.
Edit: the tires will be roughly 33” and the lift must accommodate the tire size increase. That said, will I run into and drivetrain issues at 33”. It’s a 6 speed manual.

The RC lifts gonna destroy ride quality

    Lift ≠ bigger tires

Look at OME or Bilstein shocks

Really any body lift should be "compatible" with your planned rough country lift, or with any lift for that matter, as its basically just some pucks under your body mounts and some longer bolts. If you do get one make sure you get all the risers and what not for your bumpers, and maybe your steering shaft spacers and something for the gas filler neck depending on height. Most body lifts over 1.5"-2.0" are going to show a noticeable amount of frame and may look ugly to you.

Lift mainly gives clearance in approach/departure angles. Tires are what lift the axle line for true ground clearance.

You can run a full 33" tire in a 255 on your OE wheels with no suspension or body alterations. Several threads on the topic.

If your adventures take you places that that would work for you, you'd save a pile of $ and potential headaches.

And you can always start there, adding some lift later if you find it's actually needed.

Thank you for all your replies. I think I’ll avoid the body lift as it sounds like it opens a can of worms and I don’t gain much out of it. I think I’ll follow through with a 3” lift and 33”s. That will get me a sitting height of ~+4”. One place I’m thinking about has some real low dips with steep sides and I have to absolutely creep into it to avoid a nose plant. I’ll look at the OME or Bilstein kits and see if I find something still in my price range.

Those tires may require clearance work, as a lift has little to do with tire clearance.

A 255 85 16 will get you your 33" and if you leave them on OE wheels, no clearance issues, even with no lift.

Ok, so a lift really isn’t what gets you the clearance for 33’s (assuming you mean 285’s). The width is the issue, not the height. Which is why the 255’s work. If you want 285’s, you’ll need to cut your cab mounts, install a full plate, hammer the pinch weld, and trim inner fenders. There are shops that do it, but just want you to know what you’re getting into. I know some people say 285’s fit without rubbing, but MOST need a good bit of work to fit. For me, it was worth it.

Just say no to body lifts. Really. Don't do it.

Learn from the mistakes and shit decisions of others.
