$1.57 here as of today. Love it!

Has anybody pondered if Obama now saying the economy is gonna take a LONG time to recover is his way of helping the gas prices stay low? If so, props to him!

I would rather go back to 4 dollar gas and everybody working, than to have these low gas prices.

Of course, I would love to see everyone with a job AND low gas prices, but that could not hardly be a reality....

You wouldn't see a thread like this http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/off-topic-discussion/18754-lay-offs-beginning.html when the gas prices were high...........

On a positive note, it is awesome to see the outpouring of help and support from TW members across this country in the layoff thread and other threads like it.

Sorry for raining on the parade, but many that could buy 4 dollar gas back in the summer, now cannot afford $1.50 gas or gifts for their kids......just makes me sad for them.

So why was gas so cheap before then if the economy is so bad now? The economy has little to do with it. The mid to late 90's were fine economically (until the recession that began in 2000) yet I remember paying $.77/gal. It's a simple supply and demand issue, that's it. I don't like to see people lose jobs but it happens. It's cyclical, just like the recent run up/run down in gas prices which followed virtually the same timeline as the '73 oil embargo (approx 8 years).

Best of luck with the job. Hope it holds out for you.

Again, this is simply a misinformed statement. Gas has been cheap for many years along with low unemployment rates so stop buying into the mainstream media "boy who cried wolf" nonsense and look at the facts. There are plenty of people making money (like myself) and most people alive now have no clue what a recession really is. This "people can't fill their gas tanks" stuff is ridiculous, basically just crying over spilled milk. 93.5% of this nation is working and THAT is a fact.

Wilson my friend, you kinda took my statement out of context. I haven't bought into anything the media has said. I don't watch the news hardly at all, only the people and family in my life. Some of which have lost jobs and have needed me to bail them out. That wasn't the case at all when gas was 4 dollars last summer. It was an analagy man.
    Sorry to be so uninformed.....

OK, I guess I have no clue what you're talking about then. I based my statements on what you actually typed, not what you didn't say. I don't have ESP. The fact that some folks are out of work and gas is $1.45 is irrelevant because they have nothing to do with each other. As I mentioned, gas was cheap in the late 90's into 2000, the unemployment rate was in the 4% range, yet we were paying less than a dollar per gallon. There's no correlation between the two situations, that's all I'm saying.

Filled up last weekend, $30.00 to fill the tank at 1.63 for premium, Costco.
I'm sure premium is less than $1.60. Regular was going for 1.43 last weekend.

Wait until next summer when it breaks the $5.00 barrier!

Your insight has caused me to investigate. This is what I found.
Looks like 2008 has had the quickest increase in unemployment in such a short time. Also the quickest drop in gas prices.
Looks like gas price decline has correlated directly with the unemployment trend during the same short time period. If you figure the percentage of drop for gas, to unemployment increase for the 2001 period and our period in 2008, it pales in comparison.

    2008 unemployment ----------------------2008 gas prices
Q1....4.9 ---------------------------------At start of year $3.15 per gallon
Q2....5.3 ---------------------------------At almost the end of year $1.75 per gallon
    Q3....6.0

Thanks dog, you helped to re-assure me that I would rather go back to the summer, when all of my family and friends were working, and gas was 4 dollars a gallon.

Rain on my empathy all you want man, you can't bring me down.
Mery Christmas to you and your family........

NO MODS YET! 20" Enkeis with NT420 performance tires coming soon...inspired by genxer36.
Don't worry when OPEC cuts production it will go back up (probably not pass $100/barrel).
I wish it would hit $6/gal and stay there permanently. I like the fact that it will force Americans to drive less and look to more fuel efficient cars.
The low prices is a trick! To get u to buy gas guzzlers again, where they can hike the prices again...LOL!
