    a 1" - 1.5" body lift is fine...
more then that and doing so incorrectly can cause damage.
The body to chassis additional spacing creates
increased leverage/stress to the securing bolts.
So I recommend using the grade 8 bolts.
    At least I did.

don't listen to the "chicken little" claimers
they know not what they say or never had one.

I would only recommend the 4crawler (rogerbrown) body lifts.
and not to exceed 2" lift... ever.

    I have the 4Crawler 1" BL
and it has been installed since '04
I've had no issues with it...
    even under extreme use/duty.

There is a new maintenance involved tho'
because if ya stretch/flex out the chassis off road often...
You'll want to revisit and retorque those bolts.
to ensure they are staying tight.

    Mine have stayed tight...
and it's likely because the nylock nuts
do their job and hold well.

There are write up articles and "how to's" on google, youtube and TTORA
    possibly even here.

If ya can't find one... I'll post up what I needed do

    Difficult maybe to first understand...
but once read thru... a better understanding will be had.
and the 4crawler link below is most helpful...

basically every inquiry/email made to this proprietor...
will be answered with a link.
Reason being... the answers are all there and are covered.
    Just need to read.

This vendor's products can only be ordered/purchased thru email I believe.
Think I used PayPal as payment... but it's been awhile for me.

These are the best bodylifts sold to fit the 1st gen Tacoma. period.

Toytec has some nice kits. And they are a pretty reputable brand I believe? (Correct if wrong). Is it a task that i could do in the drive way with basic hand tools? Torque wrench, ratchet, sockets ect. ?

I'm not a fan of Toytec... and feel they tend to cater to noobs.
Good for them maybe... but not good enough for me.

Yes this can be done in your driveway with basic hand tools
and a floor jack that can lift the body high enough.

I used some hardwood lumber to increase my body's lifting height.

Tho' loosened... keep the opposing side bolts securing
as you remove the bolts from the side you're working on.
So basically... do one side at a time.

I believe the fuel fill/neck height will need be increased slighly
think I needed stack 4 washers to act as a spacer for that.
Not sure what's required there for more then a 1" BL.
But I know the fuel neck will stretch/fit when installing the 1" BL.

Don't forget to remove the fuel door filler panel
    prior to lifing the bed.

Remember... when you lift the body...
the front and rear bumpers are mounted to the frame
and so those will be lower to the body then when stock.

They can be adjusted to compensate for the difference
and 4crawler offers kits to do that.

But after market bumpers may require more effort.
As there is no compensation kit available for every mfgr.

My All-Pro front bumper sits about 1" lower to the body...
But I'm ok with that... and just ignore that remaining gap.

Oh, you will also need find or make different engine side covers
the flap material... I used Pond liner found at Home Depot.
They need be made 1" longer to fit the new gap.

I like this kit because its not just a puck but replaces the actual mount with a 1" higher version. Im personally planning on getting this one when i go 35s.

Its fairly straight forward. Jack up and do one side at a time. Dont forget to loosen steering column. Good idea to soak everything in pb blaster before hand.

    I not only added the 4crawler 1" BL pucks/bolts

but also swapped the actual body mount during my install...
this one shown is the Energy Suspension mounts.

IMO the quality surpasses the Daystar products

That daystar kit looks pretty decent. I have installed 2 simple suspension lifts but alittle nervous on doing the body. Seems like there are alot of parts and things to loosen up...are there any good walk through type videos online anywhere showing what all to exactly do? Ik this might be a dumb question im just new to body lifts.

You didn't read thru the 4crawler link that I posted previously... did you.

I have not found that particular hand holding video you would like... yet

But I know there's one out there if ya google and search that a little bit.

I did read through what you linked. It is helpful info, it says that headers and stearing extensions can be a problem due to clearence. Is that an issue you had?

I had no issue because I also purchase the 4 crawler steering extension.

Don't think it is a necessary purchase for the 1" BL...
But using one will ensure the rag joint sits flat
and that no steering bind can occur.

Everything @TacoDell said is right on the money. Same experience I had with my 4crawler set and have had it on since 01 with no problems.

I'm not sure at what height of body lift you may have to adjust the shift linkages. My 2000 came with a 3" body lift and I want to remove it or go down to 1" max. This 3 inch has a lowering bracket for the radiator as well. What pissed me off is the body mount closest to the hinged side of drivers door rusted through and so before I removed the mount and cleaned up the rusted sheet metal the mount rides on, I had an annoying squeak. Like recommended above, 1" is max I would go, if at all. I guess with the limited height of suspension lift, 1" body lift could have it's merits.

I've also never heard a single complaint from the Roger Brown kits, 4crawler. That'd be the only one I'd use as well.
