    Two camper floor pieces!

Now I just need to route the half lap and epoxy them together! Maybe tonight? Maybe tomorrow night.

Decided to get back after the camper...after I knocked out some home made chicken soup!

    IMG_5171.jpg
Not everything you make should be in the garage.

    IMG_5173.jpg
Set the router to do a nice half lap. Nailed it on the first try.

    IMG_5174.jpg
Yup. Lots of wood removed here.

    IMG_5175.jpg
    All the way down!

    IMG_5176.jpg
    The other piece.

    IMG_5177.jpg
It's amazing how much sawdust a router can make in short order!

That's it for tonight. I'll get the two main floor pieces epoxied together tomorrow night!

So, after laying out all of my cuts on my composite honeycomb panels, it looks like I could do the entire floor with honeycomb panels instead of plywood. I forgot I had 7 panels instead of 6. Oops! If I do the floor with the composite honeycomb panels it means I can't mess up on any of the larger camper panels because I won't have enough material to cut a new one. The composite panels likely have a much higher R value than the plywood but 90% of the floor will be covered with our queen size 6" thick foam mattress. Does the R value of the floor really matter at that point? I'm kind of risk averse and am considering using the plywood for the floor which would allow me some cushion against messing up a cut on the composite honeycomb panels. I could probably sell any remaining composite panels or pieces of panels if I didn't need them.

    Thoughts?

I wouldn't think R value of the floor is going to matter, especially since you mentioned you are going to have a 6" foam mattress on it.

My only question with having no insulation value on the floor would be whether you would get mildew between the interior face of the plywood and the underside of your mattress

Possibly but I think that's going to be an issue regardless...to some degree. My plan is to have the mattress split up the middle so that I could either fold it up to let it air out underneath between trips or take it out completely. I'm just not sure what the insulation value difference between 1/2" marine grade plywood and 1" honeycomb composite panels are. I'm assuming it's fairly minimal but that could be very wrong. You know, because I don't know why I'm doing.

There are some springy plastic deals that are made specifically to go under mattresses in campers. I'll have to see if I can find a link.

Yeah prob R1 difference maybe , airflow under the mattress is probably more important than the minimal gain in R value

Got a bit of a slow start this morning but I'm picking up speed.

    IMG_5185.jpg
    IMG_5184.jpg
Got the garage prepped for capturing as much fiberglass dust as possible...within reason. This is how it will look until the camper is done, probably.

    IMG_5186.jpg
Got my general cut sheets out. There's an industry correct way to do this but I don't care about that. I do it how it makes sense to me!

    IMG_5187.jpg
Drivers side wall panel. Done! I've decided to go ahead and build the floor out of the composite panel as well. I have enough material and it cuts just like plywood so it's easy to work with at this stage. Besides, the composite panels feel way lighter than 1/2" marine grade plywood. I'll save weight where I can. I rough cut the floor panels already but I need to decide how I'm going to splice them together with the tools I have or with readily available tools. Stay tuned!

May I ask where you got your panels from?
