    Walls are up!

    IMG_5356.jpg
Started the morning prepping and putting up these two walls

    IMG_5355.jpg
Then I got the last four panels up.

I'll drop the roof on tomorrow morning.

Just realized I got a few other pieces to the puzzle that I haven't shown:

    IMG_5360.jpg
Two types of adhesive back bulb seals. Wasn't sure which profile I'd like better so I got both. I don't usually care for adhesive backed anything but I don't want to deal with the space and hassle needed to use a press on seal that sits over a flange. We'll see...

    IMG_5361.jpg
316 stainless piano hinge - 36" long. This is the hinge for the main door, obviously.

    IMG_5362.jpg
    IMG_5363.jpg
Southco latch. Locks/unlocks from the outside (with a key) or from inside with the red deadbolt function. Seems well made. Now I just need to figure out how to properly fit it along with the seals/hinge while still allowing space for the paint finish...while keeping the door water/dust tight and rattle free. This is where tolerance stacks will become really important.

I'm using these same latches on my teardrop trailer project. I found that it will install into a smaller opening in a panel if you disassemble the deadbolt. Also, are you using more than one of these latches? If so and they aren't keyed alike, let me know. I wasn't able to buy mine keyed alike but I was able to buy the lock cores and change them out. If you need any just let me know the number in a PM (should be on a sticker behind the inside cover) and I'll see if it's one of the ones I've got.

I appreciate that! I only got one. I'm hoping it'll be enough for my door. The camper should be pretty rigid and the door is about 42" tall and 36" wide with a 36" piano hinge up one side.

Haha, I say that to myself every time I look at it. It seems way too big for the truck but I've measured it a several times and it should fit.

I don't. I'm hoping for 400ish lbs with the aluminum boxes but that's just wishful thinking at this point. It may weigh 700lbs. Who knows! The panels are very light but epoxy, glass, windows, door hardware, two big aluminum boxes...it adds up. and that's just the empty weight.

Data point: weight for a 48” x 96” panel with a core thickness of 20mm (what I got) with the same skins is 28.7lbs.

Now to figure out how many square feet you have and multiply that by 1.114 and you'll have a better what your weight will be.

About 220lbs with the added wooden floor braces...as it sits now. With Windows, door, boxes 350lbs may be about right.

Yeah, that’d be awesome! I can easily lift a side so that’s nice.

Sanded all of the corners smooth in preparation for routing all the edges I can get to then radius sanding all the other edges. Gotta have about 3/8” radius minimum for fiberglass to wrap around and stick to.

I’ll need to glass over all of the corners. I know you can work with fiberglass upside down (bottom edges) but it’s not ideal. I’m wondering how big of a pain it would be to flip the camper over onto its top? Probably awful...I’ll think on it. I’d need four people at least to pull that off, I’d think. Anyway, I’ll do all of the edges except the bottom first then see how the bottom goes. We all know I’m not afraid to throw some blue tape at it!

Getting out the router tonight! Gonna make a mess. I feel like this thing is really picking up steam. I can actually see a point in the near future where we will be camping in this.

I'd hate to see you and a couple of buddies lift that up just to have someone loose their grip

Agreed. I’m just going to work out laying the glass as it sits. I’ll have to do the same thing inside too.

Sub'd! It's interesting to see how you scrapped the first version and went a whole new direction. I can't wait to see the next few steps.
