Haha! I feel all of that! I like that the order of operations can make all the difference. Or that you can have a feature that is stable for 10 saves then fails forever more. I’m looking hard at fusion360

I've been looking at other options, but I hate relearning everything. My SW license expired and I lost my ability to design stuff at home. Really put a damper on my prototyping for some Taco parts. I can get a seat at work but the current computer I use is slow enough without it loaded on it. Doubt the other two people who use it would be happy with it being slower either.
I need something free since I do it for hobby stuff so far and not a business.

I can easily use a work license but that’s not a forever plan. And, I’ve been dragging my feet as well because I don’t want to learn a new program. Hell, I already learned and forgot Rhino! I’ve got a decade sunk into solidworks so changing feels painful.

You like it? Have you used solidworks?

One last thing for the night. I couldn’t just sit around and NOT do something else for the camper so I cut a piece of angle steel. This will become the mount for the strike plate for the door latch. I went back and forth between 1/4” aluminum and 1/8” steel...because that’s what I have on hand. 1/8” steel won. Is that the right choice? Discuss.

Yes to both, I like solidworks, but being a small business and a hobbiest, I like the price of 360

I like the steel idea as long as its either stainless or anodized. I would worry about rust. Not so much as a failure aspect of rust but as a bleeding aspect where it will run down the side of the camper.

The striker plate is plated. The steel striker plate mount will be powdercoated. I have a few other things to powdercoat...I’m saving them all up.

Looks stout. I'd say go for it.

I do the same - I'm always trowing little parts in with my P/C batches to get coated. I almost always just get a single color so its inexpensive.

How did you find the transition between the two? I know it’s different for everyone.

I just started using Fusion360 recently too. I have only done a couple small parts in it so far, but it is nice. I used Solidworks in college and while F360 doesn't have near the capability as SW, I found them to be similar in some ways. At least on the intermediate level I used them. And since Fusion360 is free, you can't beat that!

I just need to bite the bullet and get started at home to see what it can do.

Got some work done...a little work...

Mounted the door handle. Just a mock up for getting the strike plate figured out. I’ll be cleaning up the mounting area and epoxy coating it later.

I’d rather not have this stick out like this but that’s where I’m at. Hopefully it works and we don’t constantly shred ourselves getting in and out of the camper. The more I get into finishing the door, the more I want to just buy a door.
