    Has anybody had this issue?

The passenger side access door works as expected. Open the passenger door, then open the access door. The door handle has a firm click when it opens it, at about 50% travel.

The driver's side access door started out that way but the travel got longer and longer until it got to be almost 100% before it would open the door. Now, it's hit or miss if the door opens or not.

The truck is 1 month old with about 1000 miles on it.

Looks like you just added door sill protection, I’m not sure if or how that might enter the access part, but is it maybe casing a jam?

No, the door swings in and out smoothly. The issue is the door latch doesn't do anything until the end of the travel. I think it started slipping before I added them though.

But worth checking just in case.

Not that I know of,sounds like a simple fix, probably just a defective part in the door.

They f'n suck to tear apart with the door shut.

Make sure to inspect the interior trim for damage after repairs are completed.

Sounds like a typical cable or latch problem

I miss days when trucks were simple and hard, smashing door carelessly. Now.. Now you get this.

This. And it's a door I don't use very often. I'm sure it's a simple fix but I hate when dealer techs start tearing into stuff. They typically aren't as careful as owners. After reading horror stories here I'm expecting new scratches.

The handle in the middle is connected to the latches on top and bottom with steel cables running in a jacket. It's possible something popped out so the steel cable is flexing (lost motion) when you move the handle:

My Access Cab is 8 years old and all doors open and close like the day I bought it. Driver side front and back doors get lots of use over the years with my dog riding in the back.

Better check to make sure you didn't get a 24 model early....

Nah really this is a warranty issue. You really don't want to have to take this door apart. Pretty sure that you have to have it open to remove the trim panel. That is without cutting it or breaking it.

My driver’s side access cab door has been really the only frustration with my 2020. Every so often mine won’t open. I can make it work by pushing in on the door. It works 90% of the time but it’s never as smooth or consistent as the passenger side door. I have always assumed something was wrong with the latch. I removed the access door interior panel and brought it to my local dealer to check out. They said it was working normally. And it mostly works, but I have experienced what you’re describing. Good luck and I’m curious if you get it fixed.

My appointment is for Tuesday so hopefully I'll have an update then. But yah, it doesn't feel anything like the passenger side door. Imagine pulling the driver's door handle all the way open and it doesn't open the door until you really pull on it to the full end of it's travel to get it to open and it opens with a whimper. That's what I'm experiencing.

Good luck. I have had that same experience but it’s intermittent. Handle pulls all the way and nothing. Keep me posted.

Just got done at the dealers... almost 3 hours. They said that since they can open it, even if the door handle doesn't work reliably there's nothing to fix because the door can be opened.

The GPS issue where the audio doesn't mute or lower when driving directions are given - that is a feature working "as intended"... nothing to fix. At first they (and Toyota) said it shouldn't do that. They tested 2 other tacomas with GPS and they did it too so "it's not a problem." I asked if it was simply a bug in the latest firmware that all of them are running and they said they didn't know but gave me Toyota's generic 800 number to call.

The radio browse feature not working correctly and always playing the exact same song, folder, artist, whatever... safety feature.

Literal idiots. If they don't see something cracked or physically broken, they don't see the problem
