I've recently had 1 of my tires plugged. I'm thinking of replacing all four tires, would you all suggest that or just stick with replacing the solo tire? Truck/tires currently have 9800 miles on it, any advice would be welcomed!

Why replace it? Tire plugs usually hold up just fine.

Why replace the plugged tire? Stick it on one of the rears (if not already) and run that tire with the other three until it's time to replace them all.

By plugged, you mean you had a flat fixed?

I wouldn’t replace anything as long as the sidewalls were in good shape. If you didn’t run very far on the flat tire, should be fine.

Edit: if you do end up replacing all four, let me know where that tire shop is.

As long as the tire was patched / plugged safely, I don't see any issues with running it. I just had both LH side tires patched on my wife's Grand Cherokee without issue.

If you are truly concerned your spare tire should be the same tire as your current set, so you could always mount that onto your truck assuming tread depth is reasonable between the two. I'd have to believe at 8,900 miles you shouldn't be outside the variance in wear, which would then allow you to run the patched tire as an emergency spare.

However, if you're that concerned, upgrade to knobby tires and sell what you've got.

I have about the same mileage as you on my Taco. A month ago I had to replace one of my rear tires due to an unrepairable hole in my sidewall. I bought a new tire (the same Goodyear which came on the truck) and put it on. I expect that the tread will be close enough to the same depth. I worry more about the tire pressures being roughly the same side-to-side.

As far as tire plugs go, I like them when they are used properly. Five or so years ago I plugged a tire on my utility trailer and have had no problems with it. However on a car or truck I consider the DIY plugs to be temporary. To each their own though.

A proper patch plug is perfectly safe, and will last the life of the tire. Just make sure a reputable shop does a proper patch plug, and you are good to go.

Dude is that a nail in the side of your tire ?

I'm putting a pot of coffee on and waiting for the story on this one... this has to be some tale.

    OP:
I ran into a gnarly azz screw on my tires didn't have 1,000 miles on the truck. It was a Sunday evening I took the truck out into the desert area to take some sunset shots (see below) and on the way out heard this clunk clunk clunk. Worst part is the wife had that Monday off and was dying to sling her new fly-rod into a river some place and I spent half the morning getting it plugged. They pulled it out and it hissed like a pissed off snake in the grass. Watched 'em plug it they took their time did a nice job for sure... 2,000 miles later no issue.

Needless to say we didn't get to the river - the wife was not amused.... I wasn't either.

No nail, just a 6” long lag bolt. Happened on the highway about a month ago, no idea how it got there.

I've had plugged tires go just as far as the others that didn't. At that mileage, if it were a cut side wall, just replaced that tire with another one of the same.

Just to add a little more, I've plugged motorcycle tires in the past (rear tires) and ran them for the life of the tread with no issues. Also once I had plugged one of my tires (on a previous 'Taco) with two string plugs in the same puncture; since the puncture was from a very large bolt. One string plug was not adequate. The tire was run for the rest of it's useful tread life.

Tire plugs work very well if properly installed and in the contact patch of the tread.
