1-ton of dirt on bed?

Would it be ok to carry 2000 lbs of dirt on bed? I have some yard works to do. It's about 8 miles from home.

I've hauled around 1500lbs before with Dakars installed. That's probably pretty close to a safe limit - maybe pushing it a bit.

Also, make sure they load it slowly. Dumping a 5-yd bucket of dirt from 8-ft in the air creates a lot of momentum that can do as much damage as overloading it.

 

In my opinion " driving with your head " begins by not overloading your truck to twice it's load limit

I've been doing the "make 2 trips" thing but I want to carry similar loads in the future. If I had Firestone Ride Rite airbags and 10 ply e-rated tires, would I be able to carry 2000 lbs of dirt in the bed for 5-10 miles?

 

The 1/2 ton axles are the issue.

 

Rent or buy a trailer. Either way is cheaper than damaging your truck.

 

No. While the air bags will help the truck control a heavy load, bags or heavier ply tires DO NOT MAKE THE LOAD CAPACITY OF YOUR TRUCK ANY HIGHER. They can only haul what is recommended, add ons like this only help to do what they are suppose to do BETTER.

 

That sucks. The T100 was the same size as this truck and it had double the payload limit (2450 lbs). What gives?

edit: Towing capacity was a bit lower on the T100 too.

 

I got half a yard of sand and it almost bottomed out the springs. Not recommended I learned. My truck had mild axle wrap before. It went from mild to annoying now. Sand is pretty heavy though.

Another good point posted was when they dump the material. Usually they raise the bucket 30ft. in the air before they dump. I always talk to them about that before hand.

I had planned on addressing the rear leafs anyways but didn't want to so soon.

 

Yea a 1/2 ton of sand weighs more then a 1/2 ton of dirt.
