20190928_121321_001.jpg I heat with coal and haul it myself, I make 2 or 3 trips per year. This is a picture of one of this years loads, it's 2500 pounds. The truck sits level because I installed Air Lift Ride Control Air Bag Kit #59561 in the rear (@42 psi). I don't advise loading that much weight, it's not legal, but can be done. I only have to drive about 14 miles loaded.

While not advisable, I have hauled 2400 lbs of gravel in a 2009 regular cab 4x4 I had. Of course, I had OME dakar springs, and load range E tires. Oh, and 4.88 gears to get it moving. Seemed to go, stop, and steer just fine to me.

Wow, that looks like 1,500 behind the rear axle. Tailgate survive? My Gen 1 tailgate got messed up with a lightweight dirt bike riding on it.

I wouldn't say that, I doubt he rolled over to a scale to find out the weight load. I've done 1500 and I know cause each bag had its weight on it and it was rough. I can't picture 1000lbs more being fine.

yeah, I'm not sure if that weight ticket is something I'd be proud of. and I'm not sure how a third-party can be proud of it

airbags or not, that's still 1500 pounds over the maximum potential GVWR for any second generation Tacoma. which (like the man already said) is illegal and stupid.

the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating is there to determine how much your frame can take before damage begins.

there are other components that will fail earlier due to overloading: axles, joints, hubs, and gears being the most inconvenient examples that come to mind

best-case scenario: you're not dramatically increasing wear on components and your girlfriend gets wet everytime she sees your overloaded truck

worst-case scenario: component catastrophic failure or operation past performance limitations causes damage to persons and/or property and the police and insurance can easily prove fault or negligence because you obviously spilled all that shit all over an accident scene and your girlfriend dumps you because you paralyzed her

reality is probably somewhere in the middle, but most of us don't improve our lives from doing stupid stuff.

on the non-scientific YouTube Stupidity Scale, this rates up there between roller-blading on stair handrails and riding shotgun with a drunk Russian semi truck driver that's blasting techno music.

you know without a shadow of a doubt that it's not a good decision

Illegal, I love when people throw that out there.

I also love it when people tell you that you have made a bad decision.

The good part is it didn't hurt you, thank god, you're safe.

Best case scenario people think you can't mind your own business and feel comfortable calling strangers "stupid"

Worst case scenario you bump into the person who loaded their truck like this and they smash you in the mouth for not minding your own business.

People do stupid shit every day. You can sit outside of a McDonalds and watch people walk in there every day that should have a salad rather than a BigMac & fries.

you know what Sir, you're right.

I'm glad you quoted my post, I'm going to delete the original. I'm obviously being a hall monitor and I should have more humility and be less abrasive and mind my own business when someone asks a question.

don't be alarmed, should we ever meet in person, if I don't immediately fall to my knees and beg you to not "smash me in the mouth"

good luck with the rest of eighth grade.

I didn't say I would do that, I don't have a problem with you, but the guy that overloaded the truck might have......and my guess is he is fully aware it was way overloaded.
I was just being silly and mirroring your best case/worst case comments.

Yeah, you were being a bit of a "hall monitor", your term, not mine.

90% of the things people do to their trucks on TW would be questionable in the eyes of law and or the DOT, I doubt people need reminded of that.

The Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards that cover things as simple as sun visors would amaze most people.

I'm happy to delete my post with your quote if you wish, your call.
