I'm not an expert on warranties, but I don't think it will void your warranty if you go over your recommend oil change interval. It is not demanded under your warranty, it is recommended from what I understand. But I could be wrong on this, I'm not 110% sure.

Some car companies now recommend 7,500 miles or 10,000 miles changes. From what I understand, oil analysis have shown that oil with higher miles had identical wear indications compared to low millage oil. And that's with dino oil, all manufacturers know this and they have very little traction to void a warranty. But having said this, if you drive under extreme conditions, than having a early oil change interval is cheap insurance.

But it sounds like I can't convince you to switch to a synthetic oil anyways. lol
But anyways, have a good one, and welcome to TW. :)

I've barely put 10,000 mi. on mine in the first 18 months.

It's not my only vehicle though, and frankly, at my age, I've done a lot of traveling already, and traveling is not the kind of thrill it was when I was younger.

I did go on a couple of short vacations since I bought the Tacoma, but I took the bike. ;)

Time is a big factor with non-synthetic oils. They need to be changed every 6 months even if you don't drive much, because they "spoil" with time and exposure to air, combustion vapors, etc. Synthetic doesn't spoil for years unless it somehow gets really polluted. (Heavy blow-by from bad rings & valve guides would be a cause.)

In 18 months my oil was changed 3 times, though I only have 10,000 miles on the engine.

(4 times actually, but that was because the dealer had to change a bad seal at 500 miles. The fan belt jumped off, shredded, and wound into the main seal.)

If I can go 10k without changing my oil, without voiding my warranty, I'd be all for it. I guess I need to look into that!

Powered by one tailgate mounted CFM56–7 engine. The engine is a dual–rotor, axial–flow turbofan engine capable of producing 27,000lbs of thrust. Why yes, my tailgate is slightly bowed in.
sold my 1996 tacoma lx ext cab v6 manual last month, bought it new, put 281,100 on it, was through the 36,000 mile warranty by ten months, last few years were a lot less driving, ran like a champ.

I called Toyota today and was told "Sure, you can run synthetic without voiding your warranty, but you still have to change it every 5,000 miles." I even asked the lady if that was required if the oil itself was guaranteed for 10,000 miles and she said "yes, you must change it every 5,000". Stupid in my opinion, but oh well.

Who knows, If I call back tomorrow and talk to someone else, I might get a different answer. Just wanted to relay to everyone what I was told.
