All good points. One thing I don't agree with though is that people say we're tearing up the road they pay for. But all we're doing is driving on it, just like them.

As a property owner myself and pay for property tax.. I do maintenance repair, pay the city more money to get a permit to fix the side walk outside my house.
I wish I can tell people to stop walking on it and having their dog shit on my nice newly paved sidewalk. Doesnt mean I can post a sign that says Private sidewalk. The worst part is even though if my vehicles blocks it partially. I'll still get a ticket.

As you mention mountain biker; Wouldn't they be technically trespassing ?

I was referring to the upper portion of Buzzard Lagoon Rd between Highland/Eureka Canyon and the turnoff to Aptos Creek Rd, which is partially within Nisene Marks State Park. The northern park entrance is seasonally gated to motor vehicles but it is a State Park and mountain bikers and hikers are allowed and are by far the most common trail users. To the best of my knowledge, Buzzard Lagoon is not a private road and any resident who told you otherwise is wrong. Summit Rd, on the other hand, is not county-maintained in Santa Clara County, but may or may not be a legal right of way, through traditional use. See http://www.dpw.co.santa-cruz.ca.us/Portals/19/pdfs/CMRoads.pdf for a list of Santa Cruz County maintained roads, page 9 for Buzzard Lagoon (5.87 miles long) and pages 33 and 56 for Summit Rd. Loma Prieta Avenue (not road or way) is dirt and listed as county-maintained, but there's a homemade sign at one end stating it's private, which seems of questionable (or no) credibility.

I just found this which implies that 3.32 miles of Summit Rd northwest of the Mt Madonna intersection are Santa Clara County road. I don't know if that goes all the way to the Santa Cruz County line, but it is interesting .... and contrary to local lore. See page 42 https://www.sccgov.org/sites/rda/info/Documents/RoadBook v11022015.pdf
Note that there's some private/illegal activity up there and it's not wise to stray off the road in either county.

I appreciate you finding that; I haven't seen that doc before.

And yes, there are bunch of meth labs up there, so I think a part of why those locals want us off the road is for that very reason...

^^ I may be naive but I sometimes think the meth lab thing is exaggerated; however the marijuana grows are not.

Yeah maybe. But the pot farms, absolutely. You can smell those driving around Summit.

I believe it has keyless entry (or so it appears on the Toyota website) but no push button start.

This thread is from last year; we did do a Hollister meet back in November. @TTT goes pretty often if you are looking for someone to roll with.
