Folks, I have a new 2018 TRD OR and I have the dreaded rumble strip vibration feeling when accelerating, coasting or braking in the 10-35 MPH range. I have browsed many of the threads and found that they quickly devolve into conversations / debates about shims/angles (?), mods, warped rotors, endless attempts to properly balance tires, homemade solutions, TSBs from 2015 (my truck is 2018), or about previous generation Tacomas. My truck is all stock and brand new. I'm not at all convinced this is a tire balancing issue.

All that aside, I just want to know if anyone has found a 100% successful dealership / warranty solution to this problem and if so, what was it?

    Thanks!

I assume your truck is still under warranty, why not have the dealer deal with it?

I will -- but knowing what I know about dealerships, they'll brush it off. I'd like to go in informed about the issue from actual owners.

Not all dealerships are full of clowns. I had a rattle in my overhead console. They couldn’t replicate it so they disassembled the whole thing and reassembled with new glue. Told me to come back if it happened again. Problem was solved.

Try your luck at the dealership. Vibrations can cause damage. Just bring it in

The reason you get so many different conversations is there are many different possible causes. If there was only one reason you get that vibration then the answer would be easy. Unfortunately, it could be:
    1. Wheel balance
    2. Warped Rotors
    3. Bent Axle
    4. Axle Wrap
    5. Low Grease in Joint
    6. Wrong Driveline Angle
    7. Air Pressure
    8. Defective Tire
    9. Bent Wheel

...and the list goes on. All of these things could potentially be what is causing your specific issue. Everyone always wants the perfect answer, unfortunately the perfect answer does not exist in this case.

Take it to the dealer and he should go through each one of these possible causes until he finds the correct one. Make sure the problem can easily be replicated. If necessary, test drive a new one to show them the difference.
    Good luck!

side note: if you haven't modified the drive train any, take it the the dealership, it's their problem.

Let me know what they say. I canceled a dealer appointment for this morning because I wasn't up for the hassle; was bringing it in for this and another issue. Just bringing it in on my 10K in October. I've accepted a lot of this stuff as normal operation, even if it isn't, because I just want to enjoy my truck. It's a lease so sometimes I just think, well, fuck it. As long as it's documented. My dealer isn't that great so I have to think about a new one.

I also have a feeling that reading threads constantly on TW makes me hyper aware of issues that don't even actually exist. "This feels weird...oh, right, that one guy mentioned this on the forum!"

I, personally, have had bad experiences with the Toyota dealership network. Loose oil filter, loose front wheel, truck sitting out side when they say they are working on it. It goes on. Prepare for the "it's normal" brush off.

I long for the days when I would bring my Jeep XJ into a mechanic I knew and trusted. I just can't turn down free service...even if nothing is actually serviced sometimes :)

My truck is less than a month old. Heard/felt the rumble strip vibration consistently when decelerating, somewhere around 20-25 mph. Finally realized it was occurring when the automatic transmission was down shifting. Took it into the dealership. The service department SAID they compared it to another new vehicle on the lot, and they both behaved the same way, so they declared it normal. Normal or not, I've at least got paperwork now saying that I took it in for this, in case it causes any problems down the road.

I have à problem like this since the truck is new. I have a 2017 TRD Sport DCLB. The truck have now 19months old and 20 000kms. The shaking seems to came under my feet and sometime feel in the steering wheel. Its anormal when i hit 80kph. The shaking was worst when the truck is cold or always present when i tow m'y trailer.

Toyota find nothing.... No lemon law here in Canada....

Very fun to deal with that sh.t.....

Mine does this also, very faint on decelerating same mph as others. I figure it's just the characteristic of the transmission, combo of the down shifts and engine braking. Not going to lose sleep over it.

I also am having the same issue. Dealer has been pretty good about it so far. They have done a bunch of work on the brakes. New pads and replaced drums. This of course was not the issue and the rumble strip sensation continues. I will keep you posted if I have any success on finding the resolve. I also have a 2018. 2000kms now. I am really leaning towards something with the driveshaft/angles. I measured them myself today, but realized my angle gauge was super hard to read and I couldn't get a very accurate measurement. need a digital one. I am trying to ignore the vibration as I also just want to enjoy the new truck, but I a struggling with it

Mine was caused by the pinion angle being out of spec. Replaced the rear springs and put a steering damper in, fixed the problem. I still think I have axle wrap because sometimes I get a pop when coming to a stop. Mines a 16 w/27K on it.

My still have the vibration when apply the brake is 2018 with 3500 miles, first time when to the Dealer with 50 miles the rear brakes were out of adjustment (they said)...this is my 6th time i go to the dealer Centennial Toyota in Las Vegas they fix NOTHING..... Conclusion: TOO MUCH MONEY TO HAVE THAT PROBLEM. THE QUALITY IS LOW NOTHING TO COMPARE WITH OLDER MODEL, CHEAP MATERIALS, THEY ARE CUTTING CORNERS, ESPECIALLY NOW IS MADE OUT OF USA..MEXICO.

I have mine in the shop today for the vibration. I took a new one out on a drive with the tech. To my surprise the brand new one also has the vibration....Tech was pretty good about it though. He was going to start measuring drive angles and look at the rear axel being out. Will post when i get the truck back. Interesting the brand new one did the same thing. That surprised me..Any thoughts?

Got the truck back from the shop yesterday. Tech couldn't find anything wrong. He measured the working angle between the rear diff and the driveline and he got a measurment of 3.2 degrees. I asked him if he measured the other angles (as measuring one by itself wont't tell you much) he said he did not. I got slightly agitated. He told me he could put a shim in to try and adjust the rear diff angle. I asked to him to hold off on that. Will be speaking with the manager.

Anyone else have any success with getting rid of this vibration on a 2018??
