I would definitely appreciate a PDF of TSB0171-16, I'll be taking it to my arbitration hearing.

I’m at work currently and it’s a little hard to do on my phone. If you search it on TW it’s the first post in a thread with the TSB mentioned. It may not hold up since it’s for 2016 models, so I’m not really sure what “authorizes” them to perform it on a model not covered.

Every 2019 Tacoma’s I’ve test driven (3 at two different dealerships 50 miles apart) have a slight to moderate vibrations at 15-25 mph. Led me to believe they all do it. It was why Toyota wouldn’t do anything about it on my first 2019 that was doing it more than “normal.”

I picked my truck up tonight. Brakes feel new, obviously, but I’m sure they won’t in 1000 miles. The driveline vibration is still present but not as pronounced, that’s for sure.

I had same rumble strip vib in my 06 Tacoma and it was a bad torque converter. Replaced converter and good as new.

yes it most def feels like cogs in the differential....Althought it does it while breaking....let off the break and it still does it at around 20mph coming to a stop. Mine is NOT the breaks...Torque converter makes more sense....

Yeah, I traded my first 2019 Taco for another new one that doesn’t do it as bad. Mine only does it with moderate to heavy braking and sometimes with acceleration. Just learning to deal with it. I love my truck otherwise. But this “problem” doesn’t cause other problems that we know of now. Just wish Toyota had a fix but as of now they have NO CLUE what’s causing it. I got bigger tires and it seemed to muffle the vibrations. Or at least it seems. I could be wrong.

My vibrations only happens with moderate braking at 20-30 mph. Drums are good, axle is good, driftshaft is good, etc. It’s a design flaw by Toyota I’m sure since they all do it. Just wanna know what flaw it is so I can have it fixed.

TSB didn’t do anything. Rumble strip feeling has fully returned as normal. I expect my rear brakes to start shuddering in no time.

I've been mentioning this to my dealer for about a year, finally a month ago I brought it in and the "were able to replicate and acknowledge it is happening". At 52k miles, its more like a washboard than a rumblestrip. I can hear my tools in the back compartments hopping around...

They ordered parts and let me know it should take 1 day to complete and so I dropped it off Monday.

Monday night I get a call "we had to order more parts" and it won't be done until Tuesday.

Tuesday night I get a call "we had to order more parts and the axles are not for the TRD OR differential, we aren't sure what we are going to do but there may be another TSB that applies (leaf-pack that cannot be used in MT trucks), it may not fall under your drivetrain warranty (I also have a 75k/7yr extended Toyo Plat. Plus Warranty), but we will get it figured out and if need be we will cover the cost ourselves."

Wednesday night: "We're trying to work out a solution."

Thursday night" We're still trying to work out a solution."

Waiting for the next call, this has turned into quite the shitshow. I'm curious to find out what the remedy is going to be.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

    Now into day 8

No calls since Thursday night, moving into Tuesday and yet to find out what the deal is! Frustrating to say the least...

The more I read here, the more I want to just wait and live with it for now. I think Toyota needs to find the issue and engineer a real fix instead of just tearing into new trucks and throwing parts at them with no improvement.

Good call. It’s actually a joke that my issues have returned after several days. Gonna drive this peace of shit into the ground, I have zero love for this thing anymore. I feel so sorry for the sucker who is going to be sold my truck at lease end without reading the service history.

I’m sure if they took my drums off they would determine that they are out of spec again.

Not yet, day 16 today. My last conversation it sounded like they may have pressed in new wheel bearings, not sure if they found one out of round or if they are just replacing parts and praying at this point.

    Thanks! Me too!

First new vehicle I've purchased and may be looking into my states Lemon Laws. This problem, hood glue, whining diff, rusting pinch welds, oil leak, tailgate assembly issues, high pressure fuel pump chirp, window trim popping out, headlight housings pitting inside, weird electrical issue causing lights to dim when put in neutral and rpms dropping through 1000, a-pillar/steering wheel cover rattles.

Ugh sh*t, it's a pretty big disappointment from why I chose to go with a Tacoma.

Most definitely been in the shop more than 30 days total now, with more time in the future for the oil leak/chirp.

I have yet to decide if I'm going to keep it and drive it into the ground. Seems like an abnormal amount of problems so far.

Update post-arbitration with Toyota and NCDS.

Last week I met with the arbitration rep from the National Center for Dispute Settlement, the Toyota Field Technical Specialist who has worked on my last two trucks, my dealer service manager and shop foreman to discuss the buy-back case with my truck. I explained my history with my last vehicle (see my other posts for details) and described the issues with my current vehicle. I described my driving habits as non-abusive, don't tow etc. and I concluded saying that an unknown mechanical issue is causing the rear-drums to warp and cause the rear-end vibration. Then the Toyota FTS went through a description of the work they've done, checked the axle run out, etc. and concluded saying they don't know what it causing the rear drum warping, but that it must be driver habit/use. They also noted that there was slight blueing of the drums showing heat stress.

I received the arbitration decision today, stating that they side with Toyota and will not buy back my vehicle.

My suggestion to anyone who feels the vibration: Call Toyota Corporate and open a case with them. This takes 5 minutes to do. Here is their number: 800-331-4331. The more cases that are opened regarding this, the better chance we have at getting a real long term fix, not just replacing drums every 2-5k miles.

Oh by the way, Toyota corporate says that they will no longer cover brake issues under my warranty since they say the issues are caused by driver habits. I purchased an extended warranty when I bought the truck.
