    -ECT mode on.
    -no hard acceleration
    -over a 15 mile distance
    -normally get about 17 mpg
-no additional weight-added mods to truck except for bigger tires (265/75r16)

Is this normal in hot temps? This is the first time temps hit 106 since i got the truck, and first time mpg was this horrible.

Its not uncommon to lose performance when it gets hot out. Next time you top off just do the math with a calculator, I'll bet your average will be a bit different.

If you really want to make your head spin, check out intake air temps between a vehicle with a snorkel vs the same vehicle without a snorkel.

I did it to my 98 XJ, can't say it wasn't fun taking a hole saw to otherwise pristine sheet metal. Eventually I'll have to reroute the Tacoma intake and I'll probably end up doing it again. I reckon I'll be a bit more nervous the second go around considering it's a $3x,xxx vehicle the bank still owns a decent chunk of.

i was getting 18 on the highway in 120 degree heat with 3 adults and a bed load of camping gear with a slight head wind.
What are you driving conditions outside weather? lots of stop and starts? the road you on level?
one thing i can think of is ECT, if you're cruising turn it off and let it up-shift. if hits hunting put it in s mode and limit the gear to the lower of the two its bouncing in between. Also if you are not driving hard with ECT you're reving higher longer and that will tank your mileage too.

Regular city driving with minimal elevation changes. I'll try shutting off the ect And see what happens.
There was just one other person in the car and no payload.
Will also calculate manually to see if the instrument is just malfunctioning

I'm getting like 12mpg on a 102 weather. I think I'm going to have to manually calculate once I top off. My TRD is practically wasting as much gasoline as my Mustang Cobra

104 today and with me and a buddy and a small load in the back got 21 out to the Eugene airport. Typical mileage for me with stock tires and no "mods".

Hope it's nothing...7 mpg seems like a big difference.
Do you normally drive with ECT on?

You used 3/4 of a tank in 15 miles?! My mpg has reset before when its been really hot, probably reset a few miles before you read it.

Mine does this as well if I just started on the trip after idling for a long period of time. It also does it after I start the truck up and takes a few miles to straighten out.

    Nothing to worry about.
