    i have an idea.....

We should stop using corn to make gas and food prices WILL drop.

We should also drill to try reduce our dependency on foreign oil and gas prices WILL drop.

I understand looking out for the environment, but at a point in time we need to take a step back and look at the big picture.

I usually try not to voice my opinion on things of this nature, but i really think its bullshit

OP, let us know on the gas mileage. I took my truck on a 4000 mile trip last year right after I bought it. Most of the trip was 80MPH on interstate highways in NV, UT, CO, WY. I don't know for sure what they have for gas in those states, but I do know the truck gets 18 MPG in CA doing 65-70 on long trips. Out of state it seems to get 19-21 at 80MPH. It HAS to be the fuel. I haven't been able to duplicate that fuel mileage driving in CA.

We have lots of 100% gas places around here. it costs about 10 cents more per gallon. Stop-a-minute is whats up. They also dont charge extra to use a credit card.

Right, more energy is used to make ethanol than is returned. There were two studies on the EPA's website showing this. Diesel feul is used to plant, harvest and transport corn to a "still" then natural gas is used to make "moonshine" the mmonshine is then tranported by rail to be mixed with gasoline so nobody drinks it.

I have a station just down the street that has pure gas. It usually runs about $.30 to $.40 more per gallon though. I got a consistent +2 mpg, but the price outweighed the reward.

I get a little more than an extra two miles per gallon when I use pure gasoline in my 4.0

I used to use Shell V-Max with no ethanol. Milage didn't change when I switched to Exxon Supreme. I get a much bigger hit (1.6 mpg) when all the stations switch to winter gas.

x2... I just did a large research paper on this last year. In order to come out with a positive net gain in energy you have to also use 100% biofuels in the planting, harvesting, and transporting of the crops.

I don't think ethanol itself is BS... it does make a great alternative fuel. I'm not sure it can be a permanent replacement for gas but it at least buys us a little more time to figure something else. I do think making it out of corn is dumb... it can be made out of other things that don't have a more important use like corn does. It can be made with other waste products like corn stalks and sugar cane but it's just too expensive now. Give ethanol time... I think it will get better

UPDATE-- PLUS 2 MILES per gallon with REAL GASOLINE.
May even be better next time--had harder driving this tank--up and down mountains-and still had 2MPG BETTER milage.
    IT IS WORTH IT.
Usually run EXXON--so it was not that I normally put in the cheap stuff.
Had better than hiway mpg--AROUND TOWN

It is worth the extra few cents to get REAL GAS.
Had to rebuild the carbs in all my yard machines--pain in the BUTT.
Would have been REAL EXPENSIVE if someone had done it for me(small engine repair)
One chainsaw rebuild parts were $30--sure it would have cost at least $100 at a shop.
