That's a surprisingly solid list. Placement appears to be based on level of experimentation and influence on future artists and I'd say it's pretty much dead on.

Radiohead being that high is a surprise. I wouldn't expect them to get that much recognition since their last bunch of albums get zero airtime.

Cool stuff. Thanks for posting. :)

I think the list is perfect the way it is.

You do realize that the only purpose to these lists (Top 100 Artists, Top 100 Movies, Top 100 Restaurants, blah, blah, blah) is to cause controversy, right?

The people who compose these lists know exactly what they're doing, and what they're doing is getting people to talk about it and drive traffic to their sites/networks.

Well done, VH1. I applaud your list, and I will now proceed to ignore it.

Sheesh....look at the ABBA hate!! With being the 4th best selling music in the history of recorded music, it's little surprise they make this list. The only surprise is that they aren't WAY higher on the list. You may not like them, but millions do.

These list are a total waste of time though. You gather a hundred people, and ask them to put together a list of the 100 greatest music artists of all time, and you'll get 100 completely different lists. That tells you that compiling lists like these is a total farse. They make these kinds of lists simply to get the reaction like the people in this thread are doing.

The crazy thing is that Nirvana is at #14 and they were only around for 5 years.

Bleach came out in '89, Kurt died in '94.

They made a HUGE impact in a short time.

The Pretenders, Pearl Jam and Steely Dan need to be moved way up. Beatles belong at #1. MJ at #2 I don't agree with. I bet everyone's list would not even be close ( except Mike's)
