Had a hell of a time finding a 2016 MGM Limited from a stealership here in the NW. The 2 I did find, came with too much foreplay before the complimentary tea bagging. I found right the truck at right the price at a dealer almost 1000 miles from my crib in NW Montana. Even with the money I have to spend going there and getting her home, it was still a much better deal. Problem is the truck has like 15 miles on it and the first real drive she will take is a 1000 mile monster! What do you guys think? is this too risky for the first drive. I dont want to F- up my truck on day one!! On the other hand if a new truck cant handle a long drive from the starting gate, why am I buying it? I can break the drive up over a few days if necessary. Auto transport cost from Po-Dunk Wyoming to BFE Montana is pretty steep. Any thoughts on the best way to handle the drive?

    You will be fine.

Make them check all the fluid levels. Toyota has been known in the past to have low level transmission fluid. Not sure if this is common with 3 rd gens.

sounds like a fun road trip. if the truck is the one you want, and the deal is a good one, go for it. good shake down cruise.

Do it and enjoy. I bought my Ducati about 800 miles from home and trailered it home. Worth it for the savings alone.

I bought my last street bike 850 miles from home and rode it home. Then did the same with my Tacoma a year later

    Sounds like fun!

Pics of the new ride ASAP.

Do a walk around...fluids & tire pressure kinda stuff.

If it were me I'd take some scenic routes to avoid same speed but, I doubt you'd have any issues.

I did it a few months ago with a Camry...outta the box I put 600 miles on it on the interstate.

    I understand your concerns completely.
I suggest you drive it home and enjoy, seriously. Check what fluids you can check before you take off but just think of it as her maiden voyage!
What Joe D said is perfect as well.

    Congratulations on the new rig!

Here is what the manual says. You will be fine if you follow this.

    Breaking in your new Toyota

To extend the life of the vehicle, observing the following precautions is recommended:

    ●For the first 200 miles (300 km):

    Avoid sudden stops.

    ●For the first 500 miles (800 km):

    Do not tow a trailer.

    ●For the first 1000 miles (1600 km):

    • Do not drive at extremely high speeds.

    • Avoid sudden acceleration.

    • Do not drive continuously in low gears.

    • Do not drive at a constant speed for extended periods.

Thanks for the input guys- One other thing that is a tiny bit of a concern is the trans and diff fluid cant be easily checked- The trans has no dipstick and has to be checked underneath. I asked the dealer if they would be sure to check the fluids for me before I take off- Of course they said they check every car with their 1 million point inspection before any car leaves the lot-Hope this is true-

Someone said that trans fluid check is not part of the pdi , i would expressly ask them to double check the fluid ...

That's what we did - flew up to Michigan and brought it back to Texas! No problems at all.
    Enjoy the journey!

Edited to add our trip was over 1300 miles.

The price diff between Washington area and Wyoming and Wisconsin was enough to pay for the travel- I live near a train station, Amtrak pretty much runs from Seattle to Boston every day, lotta dealerships can be accessed from the train in the northern 3rd of the USA. When the Washington dealers called me back to see if I was ready for penetration and I told them I bought in Wyoming, they didn't believe it. I said check your secret nationwide inventory website and see if the MGM Limited in Laramie is still for sale tomorrow.

Laramie- but they claim its still in Texas and wont be there until the next monday- which is bullshit because the VIN starts with a 3- which means built in Mexico- all these dealers are full of it - diff is some are worse than others

Ah ok cool. I imagine you would take I-25 down? I know they are closing huge portions of I-80 now because of the atrocious weather and accidents.
I used to live in Laramie. I heard a new owner bought that Toyota dealer. Haven't been there since it was Ken's Toyota.

I bought mine drove it 45 miles to get home. Then packed and left the next morning for a 650 mile road trip. Had absolutely no problems.

My Toyota came with a "warranty". I always double/triple check all levels, tires, emergency kit and equipment before any trip. The transmission does not have a "user" serviceable item like a dipstick; so I let Toyota take care of that. If something ever fails; It is 1-800-Toyota come get this with road side assistance.
