Adding a 100 amp Blue Sea 12 circuit distribution panel and their Circuit breaker in the engine bay. I will probably never use a fraction of that capacity but it's there and want to wire it correctly for future add ons like lights, audio, winch etc.
My primary question is do I need to run the negative from the dist panel to the battery directly or is picking up a convenient ground adequate.
Part 2 of the question is should I connect to body/chassis or engine/tranny?

Going to get premade 4 AWG cables with lugs. Two short positive and one negative cable

I ran my 80A to a bus bar and then 4ga to the negative terminal from the bus bar and ran new grounds to the chassis and engine block. I go through a lot of water so I wanted a little more corrosion resistance on the terminals.

Can I assume it was an exposed bus bar being a chuck of metal (copper) with tapped holes?
I don't plan to go through a lot of water aside from the salt spray I get in New England

Brass marine bus bar. No corrosion in two years so far

When I was running mine, I connected the negative to this ground point:

Never had any problems. I was using 8 of the 12 circuits too.

Convenient ground is adequate. Go to the body because the battery ground is connected to the body.

Awesome reply since you answered a question I didn't even ask yet regarding interference with added hood struts. That is the same bracket I am still waiting for on a truck somewhere. Looks like you had to notch the bracket.

Ya, I got that back in 2020 so it was a first gen thing. The new model looks like they upgraded it and now there is a notch. I also have a standard trans so I had to relocate my clutch reservoir.

A 100A panel won't be anywhere near enough for a winch...best practice is direct to the battery with a cutoff switch on the positive side.

Who is the maker of that bracket?

Understood, thanks. Haven't looked at the winch option more than how much I would have to hack up my existing plastic parts and not the electrical part. Not sure I want one or would use it enough to justify the cost assuming over $1k for something decent.
