1080p GoPro knock-off on sale at $40 (Amazon)

I am finding the battery to die quickly as well, but was thinking it may have something to do with the cold temps.

 

I recorded a video on mine and when I played it back on the camera itself there was no sound, is this normal or do I have to load it into the computer to get the sound?

 

What's the verdict with this particular knock-off?

The one I've used before had a battery that lasted about 1 hour or maybe more. Video quality was decent for the price, sound quality similar except when in the 'waterproof' case.

So, how does this one compare to what I've used before?

Just got mine today! There are so many bags with bunch of accessories in it! Havent been out to see which one fits the 2016 Go Pro mount. Which one will it be?

 

It'll be a flat clicky plate that clicks in to the windshield spot. Then a 1/4-20 male piece attaches to that using a knob & screw through the interleaved plates. Finally there's a black frame with a 1/4-20 socket top and bottom which the camera fits into. Voila!

Thanks @gpb ! I see two flat plates,one with the screw on knob in the bag and the other one without a knob. is your knob facing the driver side or passenger side? Sorry! Plastic and I don't get along! Don't want to break anything! Thanks for your help!

 

Could you show me your setup, I can only mount it upside down. Thanks in advance.

 

I'll see about a pic later but for now remember you don't need the waterproof case inside the truck.

Or if you do I recommend working on that problem first.

Is anybody using this as a functional dashcam with loop back setup, and hardwired in?

 

@minium I did for a bit. Worked well enough, I didn't note any issues. Started recording when ACC power came up and quit when I turned off the truck. Overwrote oldest files as the card filled up.

The sample video in my OP shows the quality you can expect; be sure to *download* the video instead of streaming it since dropbox seems to really mess with the quality when streaming.

That said, I wanted parking mode and a dual-channel setup with rear camera. I also wanted g-force based incident recording. That my wife hated having this hanging off the gopro mount was a big factor too. Happy wife, happy life. Those were the factors led me to the Thinkware F770 rather than anything wrong with this camera.

EDIT: also consider that the internal battery may suffer once summer rolls around. Due to how hot things get sitting in the sun in a parked car, dashcams have largely migrated to using a capacitor instead of a battery to keep them running briefly so they can finish writing out the files and shutdown cleanly when the car is turned off.

 

I just want to say thanks to the OP for the link and coupon code. Was looking for a GoPro during Black Friday but it would've been just a novelty purchase because the truck came with the clip. At $40 I don't mind spending that much. Especially since I use my truck for work and being that I'm driving around in LA we have some crazy drivers when traffic isn't backed up...

 

It's better quality on my phone and laptop. I guess you can't upload HD on YouTube anymore. I know before it was an option.
