So i just got looking at the Toyota care free 2yr 25k mile service .. i just realized it only includes 2 oil/filter changes and the first oil change is at 10k miles. I am a bit worried about not changing the oil/filter in a brand new engine until 10k miles
.... can someone ease my mind on this 10k mile interval, and with your new truck did you go 10k miles before your first oil change or change it sooner?

I normally change my oil every 2k miles, so this will be a first for me.
this is the recommendation from the people that build some of the most reliable engines.
so I'm stickin with my 2k oil changes just because it makes me feel better.
(lol, jk, you should be fine)

I have changed my oil at 10k-12k mile intervals with synthetic oil on all my vehicles since 1994. Each one saw over 200K miles with no engine issues whatsoever. Last vehicle was a 2008 Tacoma I traded in for my new 2016. I will not hesitate to follow the 10k interval recommended however, I am going to do the first oil change at 5k for my piece of mind.

I'm getting my 5k service right now. I told the service writer to change the oil and use my 1st free oil change with no questions asked. I will also use my 2nd free change at 10k and after that just change the oil myself. No way would I change the oil every 10k. Nor pay 100$ for Toyota to change the oil.

when getting my 6 month service my truck had 2,300 miles on it. i bought a oil filter while at the dealer and picked up oil from napa. next day changed the oil myself and it was dirty (black) at least in my opinion. i bought the truck to keep for a long time and for what it cost me to get the dirty oil out after 6 months was a no brainier. many opinions on this .

Synthetic oil is superior to regular oil .... synthetic oil will last 10,000 miles, its the dirt in the oil that is the bad part .... I can't speak for anyone else, but I change my filter at 5,000 miles and my synthetic oil & filter at 10,000 miles.

I changed the oil at 2K, will change again at 10K. Then I'll do a 5K interval.

For data point, my 3 series (sold) has oil changes at 15K interval. I changed that at every 7.5K.

So you know more than the engineers that designed this truck or you just like to piss away money, time and resources?

I actually did wait till 10K to change the oil and I'm sure it's totally fine. I'm at 10,100 right now, went though Toyota and they use 0W-20 full synthetic plus their filter that should also go 10K. I'll keep the interval this way throughout it's life. Went 5K in my 5.7L Tundra as the manual stated and it was fine for the 100K I drove it.

First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
Typically a synthetic oil should last 2-3 times as long as a mineral oil so the 10k mile interval is about right, considering the mineral oil interval was always 3k to 3.5k miles.

Also, I'd like to point out that if Toyota says 10k then that's what it is. My 2015 Ford F150 also has a 10k oil change interval. I think it's the new normal.

I've had two Toyotas now that suggested 10k oil changes and both lasted over 100k miles on that service schedule. I mean it's your truck and your money, do what makes you happy, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with abiding by the 10k interval. Technology has a way of advancing over time.

Paid to have mine changed at 1,000 miles only because I believe that a new engine is going to wear in and leave little metal particles as it does. Anal, I know. After that, every 10K just like mama says.
