I am curious about @Tacotoast 's 2021 OR MT. They may have made a change? But, in general:

-- Line Lock HA on 2016 and 2017 SR 5MTs and all Sport MTs.
These are the only non-OR / non-Pro MTs.

-- ABS based HA on all 3rd Gen OR / Pro ATs.

-- Nothing on the rest, I believe.

Heard that Toyota will make the hand brake a Pro only feature next year. But it will be TRD red...Lol

The only thing more reliable than a Toyota sales person trying to sell you on how reliable they are is how cheap they are when it comes to honoring warranty.

If the the throw bearing on the Tacoma is the same as the 2nd gen Taco and FJ/4R from that era then those are sketchy AF.

Dont hold me to this, but there was a thread dedicated to the trans options for the 3rd gen. If I remember correctly there were changes to the TOB on the 3rd gen.

a bigger tire will cause premature wear on clutches unless you regear

In the same sense that a smaller tire can wear the motor oil and motor faster. The driver is still the greatest factor in determining wear, since we all drive differently.

Dealer called me today. Said I had dirt in the box frame so that means it was stuck in mud and that caused my clutch to fail..... none of that is true it started to fail while driving 65mph

Haha exactly. It started with the clutch pedal vibrating then right before my next appointment it was sticking to the floor and slipping. But hey its my fault

The pictures the dealer sent me. With my factual story. One night on my way home in the clutch pedal i felt it pop/crunch nothing bad happened after. The next day or soon after I developed a loud vibration sound in the pedal. After two squeaky clutch service TSB nothing fixed it. The last time it lasted a day then suddenly became worse. The clutch was completely loose and started to stick to the floor and slip significantly.

Toyota corporate set me up with a truck rental and said the truck would be completely covered under warranty. Then I get a call saying I had to agree to 1600 clutch job if they could see hot spots. Well I was forced into it.

Today the guy called saying well it has 4inches of "mud" under it so we think you had it stuck and that caused the issue.... he tried to say the mud did it but I quickly called bs on that. I became super annoyed that my integrity was being questioned. I knew this would happen and I even told Toyota it would. Me vs everyone. I was told the parts would be sent out and looked at to decide how they failed... nope the dealer pulled it apart and said you do it.

I guess a TRD off road isn't made to go off road, or if you own land and use it for simple work you void a warranty. The dirt that he called mud is from dirt piles in my back yard.

Picture of my tractor moving the dirt around. I was teaching him how to run the machine.

That clutch looks ok to me.

I see heat where the throw out bearing touches the pressure plate springs.

    My only crappy advice is:

-- How stuck could you have been and not have dirt / mud caked everywhere and still 'damage' the clutch? Looking at their pics, the underside looks pretty pristine other than some dirt in that crossmember.

-- Also note that if you 'were' high centered, there is incredibly little abuse that you can do to a clutch. It is more likely to do something on firm ground (pavement) or bogged (no evidence of that).

I lost what I typed......I think when the wife was yelling at me or something.

Summary: For $1600 get a Stage II clutch and even have it installed.........

I high center myself on/in mudall the time, but i'm also using RCI full skids.

I'm terrified to get mud into my clutch assembly though that hole covered by the little black plastic cover. i can't find a picture.. but it's on the drivers side on the outside of the clutch assembly under the truck. If that little thing falls out and i get mud in there, i'd be hosed.

That is what I am saying about @sivill 's pics. If he was high centered in dirt, no issue since you have zero torque going to the wheels. If he was bogged, there would be mud in places that could not be cleaned.

All dry clutches have vent openings. You don't want to seal them. Moisture and heat need a path out or you will have other problems.

So, that hole is not water tight obviously, and with other vents, it'll never be sealed up. Makes sense.
But that means us manual transmission guys should always be aware when we do water crossings etc?
I do a ton of mud and water and never thought much about it
I was more worried about water and debris coming in through my doors hahahaha :burnrubber:
