The only way you can start in 2nd with minimal clutch wear is to be rolling when you let out the clutch. If you often start in 2nd from a stop you will definitely shorten the clutch life. That's why Toyota gave you first gear!

I have personally seen a new vehicle with 36 miles have the clutch completely gone. Person thought every time the brake was needed the clutch needed to be depressed a bit... the first 30 miles was on twisty slow mountain roads.

Lol stories like that are why dealerships almost never cover clutches...and to be honest I don't blame them. I'd be saying the same shit if I sold someone a manual car and they brought it back a short time later wanting me to replace the clutch.

Another brand new account with no post history with claims that don't really add up hhhhhmmmmmm.......

I know this much he's lying about what he drives because the DCLB doesn't come in a manual transmission.

Okay fixed. But what claims are not adding up? So far, I see absolutely no reason why my clutch wore out at 11,000 miles.

Logix dictates it can only be two reasons:
    1. You can't drive, or
    2. It was defective.

None of us have no clue which it is. You could be the worst stickshift handler ever or you might be a pro. Who knows.
But, we all know wear parts are not covered by basic warranty.
Personally, i would get a URD, pay someone to install it and move on.

I’ll try the other option: have Toyota fix it.

The options were for failures. The opinion was for what I would do if Toyota follows protocol. Good luck.

    I do... user error.

Thats really the only way to wear out a clutch that fast without exhibiting obvious symptoms prior to failure.

    The superior Tacoma does.

Jokes aside it probably does, almost any computer controlled car does.

If a superior Tacoma is plagued with frame rot problems then I guess we’re all doomed. :anonymous:

All jokes aside the 3rd gen will probably have them too... :poking:

If i understand you correctly - you're driving and it's a red light ahead so you let off the accelerator, gravity is doing it's work slowing you down, but you want to slow down faster so instead of applying the brakes, you clutch in, shift to a lower gear and release clutch. The reduced gear will catch and cause the truck to slow down and then you do it again and again not applying the brakes ever.

If that's what you mean, who the fuck does that?

because of the very poor rev match i've stopped attempting very early when I got my truck. I use the brakes normal and downshift within the speeds that wont' cause it to jerk.

let's see, other things.. I don't keep the clutch in when I'm stopped at a light.

I pretty much do the same thing you do. The scenario I was describing is where you are rolling to a stop with the clutch pedal engaged, then you release the clutch pedal about half way to partially engage the gear you are already in, then press the pedal back down when you come to a stop. It's called clutch-braking. The manual warns against doing it. IDKWTFDT.

I get it now. yea, not cool to do that.. That's why I stay put once I stop at a light because all the auto do the creep forward after a stop and there's always a big gap, but i'm not going to engage just to move 10 feet forward.

Update: Dealer got in touch with Toyota. Toyota is replacing entire clutch assembly (pressure plate, clutch disc, flywheel, etc.). Pretty awesome of them, and they will continue to earn my business no doubt.

Someone on here WILL demand to see your paperwork as proof Toyota replaced your clutch for free. I just know it.

Anyway, hope you get fixed up ASAP :)
