Ihave a 2013 Tacoma Crewcab with a V-6, it has benn getting 12-14 mpg's since about 25,000 miles. the dealer has stood by there is nothing wrong with the vehicle. My only mod's have been a 2" lift and a K&N cold air kit.
I have serviced it every 5000 miles and know i am at 82,000 miles. I still get the 12-14 and it is driving me nuts, i have had chevy pickups with a 350 get better mileage.
Am i missing something here, I have raced cars for over twenty years and built at least six in the past ten years. Where am i going wrong.

Is most of your driving city or highway? since you mentioned racing cars, do you have a heavy foot? start and stop traffic or quick light to light driving will kill your MPG. I can get 18 on the highway if I am skinny pedal concious. If not I get 13. It just comes down to how you drive. I can roll around town and get 10 if I stomp on it from every stop. I'm not criticizing your driving style. Just trying to help

Im assuming you have an oiled filter on that k&n intake? If so, take it off..Oiled filters are no good for MAF sensors. Also CAI's on our trucks can hurt mpg's rather than help.

Over 70 mph and quick acceleration will kill mpgs. Mine gets a consistent 22 mpg highway.

    1. CAI will make mileage go down, denser air means more power means more fuel.
    2. Oil from K&N filter can get on MAF sensor and make it read incorrectly making the engine not run as efficiently.
    3. Lift reduces aerodynamic efficiency.

Those things alone take a good chunk of your mileage. If you drive even a little aggressively, that's another source of bad MPGs.

    I get 16 in town, 22 going 60 mph, 20 going 70 mph.

I only get 14 MPG highway most of the time. Anything over 70 MPH kills it and I don't have patience to go slower.

Around town I get 18ish in the summer, 15ish in the winter if I'm using 4WD a lot. If I baby it on a slow highway I can get 21 or so out of it.

-Lifted truck on an already crappy MPG engine.-Not driving like a grandpa going to church. There you go. I'm in the same boat as you. The folks who get 22 mpg hwy either dont have a lift, drive like a grandpa, or have a rare unicorn powered engine.

I recently dropped from 19-20 down to 16 without changing the way or where I drive. I drive about 50/50 highway city and keep it at 65 or less. It drove me nuts for a couple tanks until I realized they added 10% ethanol to our gas. So I found a station that does 0E gas and my milage went right back up to 20mpg with winter gas.

Might want to see if you can find a 0E station and give it a try.

(My 2012 is stock except for a leer shell, AEM dry flow filter and Hankook ATM’s)

During the Summer I get 19-20mpgs doing 55mph. Slower helps. Winter I see around 16-18mpgs. It's a truck not a vespa.

12-14 is pretty bad. you can get a scangauge or ultragauge to help you monitor your real time mpgs and that could help your driving style and up your mileage. if you do drive like a grandma already, i would say make sure you have changed your spark plugs, clean your MAF sensor and maybe your intake manifold, make sure your tires are at the right PSI, etc...

I'd love to know how someone can get 22mps while another person with a similar setup (lift, big tires, etc) can get 12-14 mpgs. I dont drive hwy at all so right away that hurts mpg ( 12 miles to my job from my house) however I don't drive like I stole it. Either the QC is spotty or something else is going on.

Another suggestion, disconnect your negative battery cable for a few minutes. That'll reset your ecu to stock settings. The ecu, over time, learns the driving habits and adjusts settings accordingly. Then baby it for the 1st 7 starts or so. Maybe that'll help. A lift won't affect it much, but, larger tires will. In addition to changing gear ratios is tire weight! I think that is probably the biggest mpg killer of all. Hope this helps.

What happened to all the members claiming their V6 gets the same gas mileage as a 4 cylinder? :notsure: LOL
By the way, I get 24 to 26 MPG in mixed driving.

As much as I would love to have A/Ts or M/Ts I know all I needed was H/T and they really helped. Other than that don't floor it and keep a low top speed

*Bigger than stock tires will alter the odometer making you see lower MPG than you really are getting.

*Stop and Go driving (city/town) really drops the numbers.

*Ethanol in gasoline reduce the mileage.

    *People lie about their mileage.

The truth? Well my stock 2010 DC V-6 AUTO 4WD gets as low as 14 mpg if all city and as high as 20 if all highway/ flat terrain/ at the speed limit (65-75 CA-AZ). The past year+ that is a drop in city mpg and may be due to more ethanol in the gas?

AVG MPG for me is 15.5-16.5 mpg for my daily driving combined city and highway.
