My trail graps are 78# per tire according to Nitto's website. This is unmounted.

Nitto's tires are very nice and very strong, but also very goddam heavy. The same size KM2s, for reference, are 62lb per tire. We'll see how I like the Nittos, but being that goddam heavy this may be the only set.

You know, I had a 2008 Outback with the 3.0 H6 in it and my best ever mileage was driving through upper Maine at 80-85. Got almost 28 MPG. Generally it would barely touch 24 on the highway when going 65-70.

    Hm..

He has the smaller engine prone to head gasket diets. Interesting. He thinks it's the CVT transmission, but seems a little counterintuitive.

The manual is definitely no good for gas mileage. I jumped up about 4 mpgs when I went to auto.

^^^ All these factor in to the mileage for the truck.

    1. crappy winter blend with ethanol
    2. tire weight and rolling resistance
    3. auto> manual. Proven by many
    4. Driver's driving habit

I'd dump that pig, it drives me crazy when people says who cares what mpg you get its a truck. The sole reason I drive a Tacoma over a real truck is mpg. I use mine for work it sags in the back from the weight, I go through wheel bearings, brakes rotors and calipers alot , its really a 4runner with a bed it should get good gas. Gas is my biggest expense. I'm very happy with my 17mpg mixed with a 24' ladder, contactors cap, and a heavy foot. Although it changes drastically with the winter gas I go from 300+ miles a tank to barely making 250. I keep my tires at 50psi

I get great mpg with cruise control and a stick. It's the automatic that seems to stink it up by over reacting and downshifting 1-2 gears then overshooting the set speed. Not very refined.

6-speed is only lower mpg than automatic on the V6 because the overdrive ratio sucks. Change the OD to the same as the automatic and the stick would beat the auto.

That sounds a bit exaggerated, nothing personal. I'm averaging 14.5 mpg according to Fuelly.com. Granted its the winter blend up here in the NE, I'm lifted, LT tires etc. But in the summer I can see 16 or 17 best. No where near 22!!! My father has a 2014 TRD OR DC bone stock and gets 18 or so. Its a lifted truck OP gas isn't its strong suit.

I think username's on to something. I think it's got something to do with the ecu and air/fuel ratios.
I checked my mpg yesterday. 94.5 mi, all highway. 17.3 mpg. Filled up there, drove back the same road to the same station I filled up in the first place and filled up again. 19.4 mpg! Go figure? Sunny day, light winds, pancake flat terrain, cruise control set at 73mph. The only difference was temp. The trip down, 25-31°. The trip back, 32-36°. Makes me wonder if the ecu does an air/fuel adjustment at 32°? Any ideas?

Worthywads is right. The final drive ratio on the 6 speed is .85/1. The auto is .72/1. The 6 speed doesn't get to 1/1 until 5th gear. The 6 speed 0-60 times will be better though.:)

On a stock motor, that won't do anything helpful and I am pretty sure that there is a set of 02 sensors after the last set of cats.

Good luck. I agree your reported mpg would be unacceptable to me. May as well own a big ole F250.
