Negative. With the harness its plug and play. The units from 05-11 have different plugs than the 12-15 on the back of the units.

What member makes the conversion harness?

Also wonder if I could swap the grey faceplate to the black one but keep the newer guys for the white lights?

I got mine from @05Taco4x4. I had the issue of the ac not turning off. I had @Jerez move a wire to a different spot on the harness and works fine now. The 12-15 units have the white lights already in them. Check eBay you can get a unit for $75-85.

Keep in mind the harness will be slightly different in a 05-07 than the 08-11.

Yep I know. I’m just curious if I can install my grey teuxture faceplate on the newer unit? I know it’s removable, and they’re on visually the same sizes. But I don’t want to swap everything else to black. Honestly just hate the orange LEDs lol. Swapped everything to white years ago

Ok so the faceplates will swap but the screw holes are different. So you will have to use adhesive or 2way tape to accomplish that.

It should pop on but like I said there are I think 4 little screws that secure it to the unit.

That’s right. I remember now. Cause I have the harness and everything but when I got it working the ac was on from the old assembly so when I installed the 12-15 one the ac was on. When I disco’d my battery for maintenance that’s when I noticed the ac button didn’t work

Is anyone’s newer HVAC controls in their older taco kind of loose? That’s my only complaint. It’s not near as tight as the factory one

Anyone have issues with the A/C button staying on even when heat is on. I tried pressing it off like I did before I made the swap but it stayed on. It only shuts off if the blower is turned off.

Is your diverter selector knob set to defrost position? I can't remember if that lights up the AC light or just turns the AC on but leaves the light on the switch off.

It is not. The A/C light is on regardless the position of the selector knob.

You have to piece it together. The plugs can be found at https://www.easternbeaver.com/Screenshot_20200825-184941_Drive.jpg

Way worth the trouble though

has anyone done this recently and able to confirm the harness still exists?

my A/C works fine, I just want to make it black/blackout

I'm confused what the purpose of this "Max A/C" is
on my 08 I simply put Cold, Fan Speed, Vent Setting, A/C button, recirc if needed
    which works
    like any other vehicle...

    Max ac turns on recirculation.

Must be a convenience thing because reaching 2” to the right and pushing the button was burning too many calories for folks.

it turns on recirc? To be "max"?
Even though technically, actual max would be recirc off, if outside air is not too high of a temp
    wow

Correct, turning the dial to max ac automatically turns on recirculation. It kicks the blower speed up ever so slightly same as manually pushing the button. You can push the button and turn off recirculating manually however. Blower speed slightly decreases.

Well i guess it saves you two steps. It turns on the ac as well.
