Out of curiosity, anyone know if 12voltSolutions/whoever has released a plug and play remote start for us stick-wigglin' folks? Searched around a bit but didn't see much useful info. Last I read a long while back, they said they were working on one but needed a guinea pig vehicle to test it on.

Also have my eye on a CompuStar kit but would rather not deal with all the splicing into the harness if I can at all help it. Due to both laziness and preference to have all my electrical mods easily reversible if need be. Or does anyone know of a PnP harness for those kits?

    Thanks

Had a remote start on my '08, but bought the truck used and was installed so no idea who made it. Was nice to have. Just had to park in neutral with parking brake on and hit the start button once to activate it after I parked.

You probably won't find those for MT's due to liability issues. I've seen someone hook one up to a manual car and they forgot to put it in neutral and the next morning they remote started their car into the neighbor's house.

I don’t think a plug and play for the manual transmission exists. Plenty of auto electronics shops will put them in a manual, but I too am wary of someone I don’t know splicing into my harness. From what I’ve seen, the good ones won’t enter auto start mode unless you have the truck running, in neutral, e-brake on, then get out of truck while still running. Once it senses the door is closed it will shut the truck down and it will be armed for auto start. Works as a safety mechanism to prevent it being auto started while in gear. But yeah I’m going to just wait until I have an automatic to get a plug and play auto start.

Damn, i was hoping someone came out with at least a jumper harness I can splice something like the Compustar into. I'd have no problems doing the wiring, I just don't want to hack the body harness up with six dozen splices and vampire clips. I prefer nice clean installs, that make nice clean uninstalls possible should there be any issues.

As mentioned above, the reputable brands nowadays all have "manual mode" safety interlocks that are pretty much foolproof. They have you do some kind of sequence to arm it(brake on, off the clutch, etc), pull key out, get out of the truck while it's running, so it can lock the doors and shut the engine down with no one inside. that way the brainbox knows without a doubt it has to be in neutral. if you open any door before starting, it disables the remote start until you perform the arming sequence again. Only way to screw it up is to leave a window down and purposely reach in to put it in gear.

Older systems used to boast super janky, sketchy-at-best "interlocks" like suspended metal rings that were supposed to ground out to the shift lever if it wasnt in neutral. Or just didnt have any safeties at all. The nightmares that came from that crap is mostly why install shops won't touch manuals anymore.

The same shit everyone else has.
12v solutions had a kit at one point, but they were always out of stock. I emailed them but they never gave me an eta. They don’t even list the kit anymore.

I’ve been on the hunt for a plug and play T harness remote start for ever and ive basically have given up.

That's what I was referring to. I read one of their posts a while back saying they had it in the works but needed a donor truck to test it on before officially releasing it for sale. Haven't seen anything more recent or relevant. Seems every MT remote start thread i see rapidly drifts into canadian winters, "parking in neutral is stupid", "you're gonna drive it through your house", and '16-and-up models. :frusty:

I messaged them about this as well. I don’t remember exactly what they said, but something along the lines of- it was out of stock because it wasn’t available yet and they were still testing it out on manuals. I wish they could just have a very well written disclaimer that protects them from legal action if someone starts up their truck in gear and messes it up

Same here. I’ll just be waiting until the next truck. Will most likely be an automatic that I’ll get with either factory auto start or a plug and play unit.
