Is it possible to fit 2 12' subs in a double cab Tacoma?

Unless you're willing to give up your back seat, your only options are shallow mounts (e.g. JL 12TW3). Even with those you may run up against volume constraints. You will have more options with 10" subs.

I've done it, but it's tough, and the volume constraints are hard to deal with. I used Elemental Designs 13 0v2's, but ED is out of business now. I built the back of the box with MDF, but fiberglassed the front. Had to remove the plastic off the back of the seats, and it was a major tight fit. I ended up spacing the seats out about a 1/2" using washers at all connection points to the truck. Overall, in the end, it wasn't worth the effort. I get better performance from my 2 10" Sundown Audio SD-2's than I did with the ED 12's, and there's no need to mess around with the seats or fitment issues to deal with. You can buy a box from any company with a 10" hole and fit the SA 10" in, pack with a little polyfill, and get booming bass with the right power.

So in the end, yes, it's possible. Is it worth it, that's up to you.

Sorry, I just had to have some fun here....

No, you cant even fit ONE 12' sub in a Tacoma. Now there are ways to get a pair of 12" subs, but not 12' subs......:p

You're probably looking at something like 2 - 4 cubic feet of air space needed for those. You can make up for a little of that with something like poly fill, but it ain't the same thing. I like ported enclosures myself, so I'd be looking at around 4 cubic feet to do it my way. That's not considering the outer dimensions of your enclosure and all the hardware.

In one of these trucks, done properly, that's gonna be enough to make things start coming apart (overkill unless you just feel you need to outdo the other guy). 140 dB out of something like that shouldn't be that tough. I'd scale it down personally - one nice, long-excursion 10 in a ported, tuned enclosure with gobs of power. You can probably do that and keep your seats if you get creative.

That really depends on the speaker. Pioneer has several high power, 12" subs that require less than 1 CF of airspace. A pair then would only need 2 CF. Not that big of a box depending on how you build it. Still would be a challenge to do it and retain full seating of course.

Sure, you can use those. But it's a tradeoff. Cramming a couple of 12s into a small airspace won't be quite the same as a couple of 12s in a large, vented and properly tuned enclosure. I've tried sealed, free-air, isobaric, and vented/tuned in many vehicles. I personally won't bother unless I can have my vented, tuned enclosure.

I am not talking about cramming a couple of 12" into one that fits. I am referring to the fact that some subs are DESIGNED to operate and tune properly in a smaller airspace. Yes, that is properly tuned. So the sound will be the same because they are DESIGNED to run in a small space. Just like some subs work well in ported enclosures, while others perform well in sealed enclosures.

Probably so then. I have been building custom boxes and doing stereo installs since the early 90s. Every speaker group is different. You can go to any manufacturer and find they will have a dozen or more 12" sub designs, each requiring a different specific airspace. Not uncommon at all really. Been that way for years.

Cool! Same here. I spent a lot of time at IASCA competitions & friends' shops within a couple hundred mile radius of the Huntsville area in the 90s. We've likely crossed paths before - maybe even met! That said, I can now recall some free air subs that sounded pretty amazing in that time frame. However, they were in Richard Clark's Grand National ;)

edit: err, I'll take that back. I think he was using some sort of membrane enclosure...been a while

I can still remember when the only types of boxed that were made were single phase, or dual phase. Back then you didn't have all the amazing stuff that they have today. THAT was old school. I was actually in Texas back then. The town we lived in had a few competitions a year (We were north of Dallas by 40 miles) and the big local winner was a guy with a brand new (at the time) 1990 Camaro that was nicknames "Earthquake". To show you how long ago he was running one of the first EVER quad Orion 2000 Watt sub amplifier setups. (That was 4 X 2000, so a mere 8000 Watts, which was HUGE back then)

    I have a IDQ10V4D4 10" that bumps nice.
You could do two 10" subs along the back wall by removing the plastic seat backing and plastic bins.

I'm running 2 12" pioneer shallow mounts. I think they sound great for shallow mounts. I think I have a pic of me test fitting my box in my gallery. I'm on my phone and can't pull it up

    Yes.

I wouldn't doubt that the new JL 12TW3 subs would blow your mind and fit nicely. They're designed to work in a small enclosure, they're shallow mount, and if they're anything like the 13TW5 subs (which they are supposed to), they will sound phenomenal and give you plenty of volume. The trade off, of course with most JL products, is the high price and you'll most definitely want a properly built, custom enclosure.

I can fit a 12 as well. Alpine Type-R shallow. New box is going to be built. 1.0ft ported.

For now its a sealed at .68 with 3/4 in MDF, plastic only had to come off because I miss measured the angle.

For my setup I am using the Rockford Fosgate single 12 P3 shallow loaded Subwoofer enclosure and a Rockford FosgateP700-1BD and its all hooked up to the factory head unit. This sub is very stiff when new and sounds like crap untill it is broken in but once it dose it hits very hard! Its almost like they built this sub for our trucks!

It should be doable, Im running a 10" while still saving my child seat hook.

A 12 or 2 should fit behind the seats if you loose all of the plastic trim. You just may have to go with a shallow mount sub.
