Does anyone have the pinout for the 12 pin flasher relay (81980-35020)? I can't seem to find it.

I'm trying to understand how it all works. Especially the DTRL part of it. I found the pinout of the 8-pin relay, but I'd like to know what the other 4 pins do. If possible, I'd like to add a few external components to the 8-pin relay to get the DTRL working with this relay. It should be possible.

I don't have a Tacoma but a Venza that uses an 8 pin flasher with the same Denso IC SE336, I signed up to let your guys know that instead of messing with the shunt, you can use a much smaller trim pot that connects to pin 6 of the IC and sets the sensitivity, replacing the 200ohm R4 resistor. a 10K or 50k should do, I'm using a 100k because that's what I had on hand and with front LEDs it seems to stop hyperflashing with around 2k resistance.

Too much to list, but enough to get me in trouble. Repeatedly.
    Thread revival time!

Wouldn't adding a fixed-value resistor in parallel reduce the trimpot's overall value, thereby increasing its resolution?
If this is a solution, would the fixed-value resistor need to be high wattage?

This thread is fantastic, starting with OP's original detailed, well-informed deep dive.

I had been struggling to understand my 2014 V6 w/ tow package headlight/turn signal/DTRL/front marker-light configuration, wiring, logic flow, etc. and got as far as the Toyota wiring diagram which only goes so far. OP's deep-diving the actual flasher unit itself was the missing piece of my puzzle.

Now I've got the info I need to figure out the best way to get the marker lights on my 2014 to flash properly (in sync) with the turn signals in all lighting conditions (turn signals only, turns + DTRLs, turns + headlights, and hazards.) Will post a write-up here once I get it sorted.

The only problem with just paralleling the markers to the DRL/turn signals is that then the markers don't mark anymore at night.

I.e. when the headlights are on, and vehicle driving straight not indicating any turns, the DRL/turn signals are OFF, and thus the side markers will be OFF.

Since the 2014 Taco w/ combined turn/DRL signals actually uses a 2-filament bulb (low and high power,) the best way I can think of is to try to find a suitable bi-level (3-wire) LED bulb & rewire the existing marker-light socket so that it double-parallels the main DRL/turn signals.

    Parallel 1:
    DRL/turn (high power) &
Modified marker light pin 1 (high power)

    Parallel 2:
    DRL/turn (low power, i.e. parking light) &
Modified marker light pin 2 (low power)

The hole for the marker bulb is way small to what is available...upload_2023-12-9_18-32-10.png

Thanks, I was trying to find that bulb-holder socket part number earlier & couldn't. The overall harness for the marker light actually has a 3-hole socket, which led me to believe that maybe the socket itself supported dual filaments, but on closer inspection actually the 3-hole connector is down-converted to 2-hole with a piggyback adaptor before it gets to the bulb holder.

I don't see any feasible way to modify the bulb holder 2-conductor socket to be 3 conductors, so I guess the only way forward would be to 3D scan the part & redesign it to have 3 conductors / contacts in it.

Out of my league since I own neither a 3d scanner nor a 3d printer.

    Think circuit then, not bulb/lamp.

Yeah I've thought of that quite a bit. What is needed is some kind of custom relay setup to handle the logic table between the 2-input DRL/Turn/park bulb, and the small 1-input marker bulb.

Some kind of custom relay setup that handles the various IF/THEN conditions of whether the low-park light circuit is activated, whether the DRL always-on is activated, and whether the blinking TURN is activated.

Whatever I might work out has to be perfectly sync'ed with the primary turn signal, day or night. Since the marker light on my 2nd gen is easily visible from the front (unlike many other vehicles with side markers,) it is in my view visually confusing to oncoming viewers (drivers, pedestrians, etc.) to see a pair of lights alternating on/off out of phase on one side of the vehicle.

DRL is ON after engine ON and Parking Brake released.
DRL turns OFF when LOW beams are selected.
So MARKERS would be in parallel with turns until LOW beams are selected.
Combination switch (steering wheel) selects ground on all circuits.
