My bet is not on the cps or battery. Something is interfering with the canbus communication line.

This'll be my last post for the night but I'm curious what leads everyone to steer away from the brake sensor system as a culprit, bad ABS sensor or some other type of position sensor besides the crank was my original thought.

Thank you all again, will check everything out tomorrow and return!

My old 2nd gen when the battery was shitting out did this. Because it dropped voltage below the needed amounts to power the systems. So it caused them to throw lights.

My 2013 Jeep wrangler used to do this on occassion. Found a bad ground. Then all was good till it's battery hit end of life.

Did you ever figure it out? I'm having the same issues. I installed aftermarket leds, remote start, and tailgate lock. I ripped everything out but the tailgate lock. I even bought a new battery and checked every wire I could find. Can't seem to find anything

By chance did you mention trading it in while you were within the tacoma's hearing range?

Best I can tell for me it was the android head unit (Dasaita brand for reference) with the Canbus connections in line, IIRC correctly I updated it or reconnected the wiring harness and it went away. It might have come back once. Since then I have installed a pedal commander, short shift kit, and a N2 Designs Remote start and haven't had any issues, also had battery replaced for the first time this year.

What remote start do you have? Has your radio been functioning weird or is it a constant problem for you?

Funny that I stop by here and see another thread about crazy car electrical shit. I just went thru this with my truck (not a taco). Had the issue for a week.
    Here's what started it.

So cut that out and replaced it. Acid creep is hard to detect. I have found it only in the middle of a cable, not at either end. Just in the middle.
Here's a look at a fuse they use to protect the system.

My power probe was going crazy when you moved any of the wires going into, and out of this fuse/breaker.
Took all this to work on it.
    IMG-1944.jpg IMG-1945.jpg IMG-1946.jpg
Cleaned all the contacts, fixed the resistance in the cables and ended up with this.
    IMG-1956.jpg
    Turned the key and nothing.
REPLACED THE BATTERY, AND BOOM! CAR STARTED, RADIO PLAYED, LIGHTS WORKED AND EVERYTHING WAS GOOD IN THE WORLD.
Moral of the story. Four years is about all you can expect for a "secure, trustworthy" battery. Anything after that is gambling with your ability to drive.
This truck only has 60,000 miles.

2016 had issues with crank position sensor that would cause similar issues. Has yours been replaced?

Almost definitely the battery dying. Cars go nuts when voltage is low.
