12K Miles Charcoal Canister Replaced Dash Lights Still Coming On

I have sat through a 3 day class on fuel systems and operations. It involved all the valves and canisters used due to EPA standards as well as the Pros and Cons of those components. It also educated us on the potential issues, which one was overfilling the tank. If you saw how the components worked together and what they do, you would change your filling practices.
I too was one to give another squeeze and top it off, but after that class I have changed my ways. Now, if you just need another 2 or 3 cents worth to round up to say .50 cents or so, not a problem, but if you are rounding up to the nearest whole dollar, that may be pushing it.

 

The charcoal canister is connected to the top of the fuel fill neck via a hose. If you over fill (keep pumping after first click) you risk filling the canister with fuel. That effectively ruins the canister. As mentioned, expensive to replace.

 

Do you fill your tank every time you get gas? Do you try and get as much in there as you can ? Over filling can ( not assuming it's your fault ) put extra fumes and fuel in the system . Charcoal filter systems can absorb fuel . Or leaks can cause failure as well. Ask for there lead mechanic if possible. There are tons of different skill levels and scanners dont always point in the right direction. Dont lose hope.
