A few months ago I went ahead and did the 12v always on mod. I like being able to shut the truck off while I wait for the wife, and my phone stays charged. Not a huge mod but I like it.

I had one of these dual USB ports in one of my 12v sockets. This item kept my truck from starting.

I went out to move my truck so I could get my motorcycle out of my yard. Truck no start. I use my lipo booster and the truck fires right up. I get the truck moved over, dont have time to mess with it and go off to work. I come home for lunch, again truck will not start.

I start troubleshooting what I have done recently to the electrical. 12v always on, and the ARB twin compressor. I unhook the compressor and that does not solve anything.

I look over at the USB ports and the little LED is not on. I pull it out of the socket and the unit is warm to the touch. Truck starts right up with it removed from the 12v socket.

This stupid thing failed in some stupid way that was killing the electrical on my truck.

*Edit* This has now left my battery in a low state. I need to get my trickle charger on it to actually get my battery back to usable.

Thanks for sharing this find. At least it happened at home and you did not get stranded somewhere. I need to do the 12v mod and will pay attention to the adapter.
