Hey all, I just picked up the Toyota dual usb "Smart USB" port (pn PT976-89202). The only instructions for it I can find are for the Camry. I'd really like to keep it just a quick plug and play deal and not have to rig up something other than the connector it came with.
Any ideas on a connector in the dash area that's the one I'm after?
It's not the usual 12v cig style connector.
    Thanks all!

That part is typically installed for the back seat, on the back side of the center console. You can install it anywhere you would like though.

No no, I understand that part. I'm wondering where the electrical connector is at. I'm assuming in typical Toyota fashion that the connector is already there.

I don’t think you are going to find a connector for it just hanging in the dashboard. That only happens if the part is an option on your vehicle that you didn’t have from the factory. Tacomas don’t come with an option for an extra USB port besides the one in the console and the regular one for the stereo. If you don’t have the one in the center console already then you may find the plug under you center console. The plug may be different though and require some modification.

Did you check to be sure it is compatible with the Tacoma? Assuming you want to install it in a Tacoma. The only pictures I could find show it installed in the dash of a sedan of some sort.

I installed my own cigarette 12v socket in the back of the center armrest for the backseat. I didn’t take apart much else besides that back panel, but I can tell you I didn’t see any unused connectors or clips back there. There isn’t much back there besides some ECU looking box with heat fins on it.

My 2019 SR5 doesn't even have that. I put one of those round dual USB ports in as part of my radio/electronics install and had to run the power wire for it from the added fuse box back.

@K9tacoma Ive been into that area adding the 400w mod for the inverter. But everything i see online for that plug i purchased shows it to be closer to the dash. Its a pretty long cable.

Are you installing it in your '17 or a '21?

That port on my truck (in the back of the console for rear seat passengers) was vampire clipped to the wires that feed the console interior port. I cut out the vampire clips and butt spliced it together.

My '17. To be fair, I've installed a few other electrical stuff like this meant for newer Tacomas. Such as the factory tailgate lock.
I'm honestly just hoping. Wiring in a new plug or whatever i need to do is defiantly in my wheel house

Since I'm useless with tools and electrical and anything mechanical I had one installed that lives in the
rear cubby under the seat ( access cab ) wired to the battery ( ignition on only ) to power my Dometic CFX3 35
while driving. While not driving I plug it into my Jackery 1000 Pro.

Wife pointed out that I should plug the Jackery into the new port to keep it charged while driving and then
run the Dometic off of the Jackery full time.

    ( duh )

Had to break out the 200w Solar Panels on a recent trip as the power blew in the camp ground. I set them up on top
of the tonneau and ran the cord thru the sliding window. Worked well.

You can plug it in anywhere that is a +12V source and a ground. They're probably adding length to reach the 12V socket plug or to allow installation practically anywhere without you needing to add your own length. If that's the route you want to go, here's the schematic. #1 is up front, #2/USB is inside the center console.
