I'm planning a scanner install in my Tacoma and have the intent of making it something I can leave on overnight so it can broadcast via WiFi to the house network. (See this YouTube video for an idea of what I'm talking about.) This will draw some pretty low amperage overall--I'm estimating about 750 mA for the scanner, 40 mA for the Neo 7-7M-C GPS, and 400 mA for the VAP11G-300 Wi-Fi adapter which is about 1.2 A, so round-up buffer puts me at 1.3 amps. Running it for 12 hours says it would require 15.6 AH.

Obviously, as time goes on, I'll find other things that I'd like to plug into this system, so I'd like to run it as a "house" 12V system. The only real reason I'm curious about what I should use for it is that I intend to have it run often, so that could mean draining the power down and up several times.

Ideally, I'll have it wired to shore power for charging overnight when it's in the garage, but I'm sure I'll forget sometimes or perhaps park it in the driveway.

So, my first question: what kind of "house battery" would be best for this? LiPo? AGM? Something else?

I put a cell based Arlo camera in the cargo area of my work van, it draws power through a fused circuit from the battery to top off the camera battery.

It's parked at client's lot for few weeks at a time in between jobs, so I put one of these BlueSea low voltage disconnect between the fuse and camera. Once the battery voltage drops below 12.1VDC, it will disconnect the camera power to conserve the battery for the engine start. It has been working well.

I would not run something like that off the starting battery
A power station setup to charge off the truck or a secondary battery is the way to go
